Illaramendi wasnt cheap and they lost a lot of money on him in one season.

Losing 40 odd million on likes of James or odegaard.

James was a bad sale, I'll give you that. But Morata was imo just as good a sale as James was a bad one.
Odegaard was cheap (3M€).
Vinícius Júnior on the other hand :amazed: THAT can be a proper flop because paying 45M for a 16 year old brazilian kid is quite risky.

They are taking a big loss on James, cant sell Coentrao who they paid a big fee for and cant sell Luca Silva.

That is just this season.

Can list a load of players they have lost money on in recent years.

James is still under question, Bayern has an option to buy IIRC for a large sum. So that is still to be seen. Coentrao was signed about 6 years ago. Recently, they haven't lost money on players. Those are exceptions to the rules. They usually make quite a lot of money from selling players they don't need. And they use those money to sign fresh blood, often of superior quality.

James is on loan. He's still their player.

Which is awful, they don't even control his future, after paying ton of money for him

35.2M isn't a huge sum, RM still makes 30M loss from the deal

Even if Bayern sign James Real are losing around 35m on him. There is no real question that it is a bad deal.

Doesnt matter how long Coentrao was signed if the idea that Real can sell players for big money. He is not even 30 yet and not been able to sell him past few years.

Those are not as exceptions to the rule as made out. Lost money on Khedira, Illaramendi, paid Casillas wages to leave furhter back and plenty more money lost on players.

How much of a profit did they make from Morata alone? That covers probably all of their losses in the last 2 years.

Pep already said Aguero is staying, Belotti had one great season in Italy and is now worth 50M and he is less proven than Morata, you gotta think if he is worth 50M as rumored then 80M for Morata makes sense, also Auba will cost same amount of money and he is 3 years older, the difference between 25 and 28 is 3 years in your prime.
Also,Morata didn't play in crucial match in CL this year, but still scored 15 in 26 in Liga. That is a very good rate for a player who was on the bench -and most fans thought he didn't deserve to be on the bench, he actually scored more than Benzema

Difference is: They are proven topscorering material. Morata isn't. Give him full game time for a topclub = topscorer in the league? I'm not sure - the others are more goalgetting types, and they tend to be more expensive because it is more difficult to put the damn ball in the net than work hard and participate in the play well, as Morata does.

Aguero could be sold if a proper bid landed. Aubameyang is older but 2-3 times more likely to be the striker Chelsea need, but still Morata manage to cost the same - that is good salesmans-ship from RM.

They also signed Sahin for 40m or so.

Lmao.

Or was it 10M€?

They are losing a great player in Morata tbh. So if you are selling a striker who gets you 15 goals in 26 games to recover the money lost from other signings, I am not sure that is a good thing to say.

They will have options. Benzema is extremely underrated. Was amazing for them when it mattered. He is closer in value to Suarez than most here like to admit. But, yea, I would have kept a player like Morata no matter what.
