Alvaro Morata

Of course he has something to show. 50 M max I would say - the rest is a good sale. Maybe it is me - but I don't rate him that highly - imo he will never be worldclass.
He went for the same amount as the notoriously over-spending Manchester United payed for a hyped-to-the-max stable PL-goalscorer Lukaku. And waaay more than former french topscorer (2nd last two years), who on average nets every other game in Ligue 1, Lacazette, who were also sold to overspending PL.

I get the point that "everything RM touches isn't gold", but even though James wasn't as good a deal as it could have been, you could just point to another: 30 M € for the biggest flop in recent RM history Danilo.

Lacazette is a bargain, but him and Lukaku hasn't proven themselves in CL same way Morata did, there is always difference between what we think a player is worth and what the market value is. Again I am not saying he is worth those amount of money but Morata was rumored to be in for 70M deal when he was in Juve anyway.
When Chelsea,Milan,Manchester all in for a new starting striker the prices was always going high.

How can this guy cost so much? Not saying he's a bad player, but there's too much money being thrown around in football for no reason at all...

Madrid are masters at PR. They basically let everybody know that their players are the best. We, on the other hand, seem to undervalue most of our players. We undervalue our own players to the point that it is very hard to sell them for a lot of money.

Hell, you have users here saying we should sell Gomes for 15m. Madrid would sell him for 50.

Didn't he score 3 crucial goals for Juventus in the CL semifinal and CL final? How many 24 years old strikers on the market now do you know who did this sort of stuff?

Alright, the point about CL is right. But he didn't even play in the final part of CL this year, so he is not freshly CL-world-beater, and in my opinion Lukaku is better than Morata.
A lot of World-class strikers are available right now - maybe more than ever: Aguero, Aubameyang, Bellotti. They are pricy, yes, but they are all more available than such strikers normally would be in the market, and they are all a fair amount better than Morata.

They just won La Liga and the CL and last summer they only bought Morata back for a small fee.

They already has tremendous amount of capital even before this transaction occurred.

They can buy pretty much any player on the planet, but it really doesn't matter as it's going to be very difficult for them to replace players like James or Morata coming off the bench.

Real Madrid has always sold big when they bought big - look at their history, they don't have unlimited money. Ozil had to go to make space for newcomers etc.
Just playing Asensio more is quite a bit scary as a barca-fan, more than the loss of Morata, as I see it. And I'm quite confident they will get Mbappe this or next season.
James is a loss, I agree, and overall loosing both Morata and James will be a loss, for which I'm happy. That said, their bench is still better than ours.

Danilo was an average player but nowhere near biggest flop in Madrids recent history. Did ok when he played last season.

I said he's not a bad player, I just said he's not worth such amounts of money... Neither do Pogba, Lukaku or any other of the ridiculous signings we see today...

Yea. He's become underrated. He has been steadily improving since his first season with Madrid.

This aren't ridiculous money these days. It's a normal big fee for a top and young striker who has proven himself at the highest level already.

who is then? Illarramendi? They bought cheap and got half of it back again.

Madrid rarely lose money on the players they sign. They can sell players without looking as if they want to get rid of them. While us, when we sell, the other teams know that we're looking to offload this player, or that player.

Pep already said Aguero is staying, Belotti had one great season in Italy and is now worth 50M and he is less proven than Morata, you gotta think if he is worth 50M as rumored then 80M for Morata makes sense, also Auba will cost same amount of money and he is 3 years older, the difference between 25 and 28 is 3 years in your prime.
Also,Morata didn't play in crucial match in CL this year, but still scored 15 in 26 in Liga. That is a very good rate for a player who was on the bench -and most fans thought he didn't deserve to be on the bench, he actually scored more than Benzema

They are taking a big loss on James, cant sell Coentrao who they paid a big fee for and cant sell Luca Silva.

That is just this season.

Can list a load of players they have lost money on in recent years.
