Tbf, Asshole Asshole was terrible in all aspects. Even Marcelo said that this wasn't a red for Roberto. Also, Alba should've gotten a yellow for grabbing Modrić and Bale should've been sent off. Twice.

Roberto was shit in defense. Look at the game again and see how many times they came from his side. He is a liability whenever he plays vs good teams RB. Semedo is superior defenseman.

Well, he had to deal with CR and Marcelo in 2 vs 1 situations a lot... Doubt Semedo would have done much better...
Not even our worst defender, what was Umtiti doing most of the game in no man's land, including their first goal? Or Alba getting surprised again and again?

I hate the fact that people are gonna start hating on Roberto, if Valverde is gonna keep playing him ahead of Semedo at RB, he doesn't deserve that. What he deserves are consistent minutes in midfield, while i do think Semedo should absolutely be our starting RB from next season, Roberto should play in midfield in the same matches, while still playing the smaller matches at RB, against opponents who don't have world class wingers to expose him in defense.

We should look at an upgrade for Rakitic, not a downgrade.
He's played under three different managers and none of them deemed him good enough to play in the midfield. The club spent 30m on a RB for a reason too. They believe that position is a weakness and it is. Roberto is not bad and he has his moments just like he did last season, but in the end we need someone faster, more athletic at that position

Actually, not three, but four managers don't rate him as a midfielder. Julen Lopetegui who was Spain's U21 Manager didn't even select him for the team in 2013 and rates Odriozola higher than him as a RB for the Spanish National Team. For the midfield position he isn't close to get into Spain's squad either unless 3 or 4 players gets injured.
He's a great player to have on the bench as he can fill multiple roles and has got some fight and heart in him, but in an ideal situation he would not be a starter in any of them.
In Spain's NT setup he's rated as the 4th best RB(Carvajal, Azpi and Odriozola) and has many midfielders ahead of him, and this is only talking about Spain. Not because there is bias against him or Barca, but because he just isn't as good as some people wish he is.

And at the same time Pep, Tito, Tata, Enrique and Valverde have liked him enough to not send him away. He is a very good player and some dumb things he’s done doesnt change it.

For me Bob already did the job in cementing a place in this team as a good utility player to have for a bench option. But as a starter in the Midfield and RB? just not quite there to be one for a team like ours and there's nothing wrong with it either.
At RB he shows signs of brilliance here and there but there's just some weaknesses he cannot overcome no matter how much he plays one of them is definitely pace. He isn't the slowest player out there but he doesn't have that explosive pace the likes of Alba and Semedo have, Digne has the same problems as well. having pace helps so much in a number of ideas such as going forward and being able to get back into position quickly enough.
While defensively not as bad as the likes of Douglas and Vidal were, he isn't good enough either in that spectrum. Positionally weak and he struggles a lot in 1v1 duels, not just physically but being uncertain what to do in 1v1s as in either knowing when to be combative or not. He seems to mostly just let himself be done in by even the simplest moves.

Of course they’re going to come from the side with Marcelo and Ronaldo as opposed to Nacho and Bale. Duh. He did well. They didn’t get much going despite focusing their attacks on that side.

Yes and? Nobody is saying he doesn't have a place in the squad. He's a versatile jack-of-all-trades. We're just saying that he should have no business being a starter for us, especially with Semedo in the squad at RB and better options in midfield.

This is the problem. Local fans and press support the local boy. Semedo is the scapegoat. Roberto is a squad player and a midfielder.
