Dominated in middle of the park doesn't mean much. Madrid played counter attack that season and beat anyone in CL.

Gundogan is a top player also, but he has moved to a different team and remains to be seen how he adapts. If he can provide that sort of influence like Modric for Madrid until recently, with key passes in big games, that's great for both Gundogan and Barcelona.

Madrid didnt play counter attack at all.. they conceded a heap as domonated in middle of park and teams should have scored more every time.

Real got late goals when forced to go on front foot.

A one off way to win it similar to Chelsea under Di Matteo. Wont be repeated.

Modric was elite for a couple assists? What did Kroos do if it is about that?

Ah so now Gundogan is a 'top player' and not an old past his best player that is a year away from Saudi..

Yeah, they scored 6 goals vs City in 2 games out of pure accident.

They were not countering City when got those three goals to go through... no.

Balance of games wouldnt be repeated.

You were told that and Real were humiliated in CL this past season in way could easily have happened previously.

Real didnt turn game around v City, PSG etc by playing on the break they won when gave up that idea and crazy finishes.

Who gives a shit if it gets repeated or not? It happened that season. And in that season, Madrid's key players, their experience, match-winning quality in high pressure scenarios, this made it happen.

Indeed but not in way that you make out.

Same as Chelsea under Di Matteo etc... they put out Peps Barca.

One of way and team were not as good as you made out to repeat that success.

You were told this and argued against it... then Real were humiliated trying to think like you they could win that way again.

Yeah, unlike their defense, who were basically human cones, but you praise them

Yes and they can thank Courtois for that one.

Possibly best GK performance in a CL final.

He was good and they still conceded a ton of goals in CL.. says it all about that defence and no surprises to some when get scudded by City this year.

That year they conceded record number of goals in CL KOs for a winner and were not even the best defence in La Liga.. conceding four to Barca and only 7 goals less than a Barca with a terrible bunch of defenders bar Araujo.

Real defence was far from elite.

Courtois was great, but it takes a whole defensive effort to keep a clean sheet in a CL final. Madrid's defense did a good job in that final to reduce Liverpool to just a couple of serious chances all game.

Of course Liverpool are gonna create chances, they were one of the best teams in Europe at the time and an offensive force.

No they conceded a lot of chances and Courtois had to put on possibly the best GL performance in CL to keep that clean sheet.

They were far from elite defensively at home or in Europe.

They weren't elite in defense, just good. Better than City for example that made error after error including gifting 2 silly pens in the semis. Or Chelsea in the quarters.

Elite? No. Better than most other defenses they faced, yes.

Courtois was named MOTM, broke record for number of saves and he saves he made were held up as probably the best GK performance in a final.

Thats what it took for him to keep a clean sheet v Liverpool as they conceded so many chances as did every tie.

He bailed their defence out as he has been doing even when conceding a record amount of goals in KO stages.

Real conceded more chances than those other sides.. but had a better GK and forwards more clinical.

It is not a rule that the best defence wins CL every year or even an elite one and there wont have been a side that conceded as many as Real did and still had GK as one of best players.

Not that many clear chances for Liverpool. And even then, it's a CL final. Poor defenses don't get to CL finals so your argument is a losing one already.
