I think he is a good player, I just don't see why we have to accommodate our entire midfield to suit him. I don't think he's good enough to warrant that. We are sacrificing so much tactically for players that don't deserve that treatment.

I think the problem was accommodating our whole setup to Messi again, who basically played in front of the double pivot today. I have no idea why Koeman changed a (relatively) well running midfield setup to go back to square 1. Coutinho was the other victim of that (who I dont rate to be fair).

He is good but doesn't deserve the endless protection he is getting from some people.

Living in Holland, especially our media always pretends like this guy is the reincarnation of god. Can't stand it.

No need to lynch this guy but he really needs to step up.

If Im not mistaken , I think Gullit never rated him. And lately he got critiscm from Van der Vaart aswell.

He is a good player but he's Koeman's lap dog and we are getting bent out of a shape more than his abilities warrant.

Complete player Alpha GULLIT would eat players like FDJ for breakfast dawg. Now that's someone who can score, create, run for days while also defending like a bulldog no wonder he doesn't rate Frankie De FRAUD.

It's not one or the other. We are accommodating Messi definitely, but a huge part of the reason our midfield is the way it is is due to FdJ. Considering our transfer targets I don't think the board/Koeman planned playing with a 3 man midfield. The idea I believe is get Pjanic to play as a DM, FdJ 2nd midfielder in a pivot, with Wijnaldum roaming around in that attacking midfield position. To me that sounds like a bad idea, and doesn't really solve any of our issues.

What? Pjanic is a playmaker not a CDM what are you talking about

I dont know, with the squad we have a double pivot+Pedri/Coutinho kind of makes sense. Putting Messi in that spot doesnt, which basically makes it a midfield 2. At Ajax they played with a very deep 10 in comparison. As a result Frenkie (and to a lesser degree Busquets) had to cover ridiculous amounts of space.

Different era. The 80's had the best central midfielders of all time like Rijkaard, Matth?us, Falcao.

Guys that along with the footballing capabilities were actual warriors. Today's ballerina footballers like Frenkie would be eaten alive by any of those era's midfielders. And I mean not just physically, but also in terms of input. I just feel like those guys 'wanted' it more. Had more to fight for.
