Lautaro Martinez

I don't believe Suarez will leave on his own and we won't push him out of the club as well to not upset Messi (with his contract also expiring next year). In fact I could actually see us renewing Suarez for another season or two just to please and keep Messi. But yeah, hopefully Beckham will convince Suarez to join his MLS team.

I think Messi, Griezmann and Lautaro could work together.

Messi, Griezmann, Lautaro and Suarez won't and that's the problem. Suarez will still be here next season and start most of the games.

Suarez NEEDS to be supersub. He can't be relied upon anymore.

We are all aware of this but try to tell the same to his buddy Messi. :D

There is no evidence that support that myth about Messi being the reason Suarez starts.
Never mind that Messi said he will retire here because his sons are now in school and he won't take them away from it.
And Suarez himself said he fully expects the club to sign a new 9 as he is old. That was 2 years ago.
Bartou himself avoided a direct answer about renewing Suarez, which probably means it is unlikely

Martínez is not a real number 9. Why on earth would this club sign him? We already have Griezmann and he's been a failure so far.

I see Martinez as a good player but I think he plays better as a second striker. Like Griezmann. If I am mistaken, please share your knowledge about him, because I don't know much. Against us he looked good at receiving the ball with defenders on his back, so he has that one on Griezmann..

I love how almost everyone accepted that he is a 120 million striker including the Catalan media. The guy will turn 23 in a few months and hasn't done anything of note in his career. For scaling purposes, he's a year older than Mbappe and three years older than Haaland and Sancho.

Madrid will be going for Mbappe, and we will go for Lautaro because Barca DNA  This DNA thing has fucked us over so many times in recent years, if you're willing to spend +100 million every transfer window then you might as well go for the absolute best. In this case, it's Mbappe, if it didn't work go for someone like Haaland who's ceiling is much higher than Lautaro. To put things in perspective, Lautaro scored 6 league goals last season, a goal less than Haaland managed in around 170 minutes of Bundesliga. And it doesn't even get much better if you look at this season, Lautaro has 4 more goals in 16 more goals.

I know almost everyone here likes his little flicks and turns, but most of you will turn against him when he puts up these numbers here.

I'm not convinced.
If we'd buy him I'd only accept a negotiatied sum, not the release clause. He hasn't shown that he's worth 100M+.

Compare him to Frenkie who felt like a guaranteed success for whichever club that'd buy him for 75M.
AFAIK we are the only club interested in Lautaro. He has been OK so far, far from what Frenkie showed at Ajax/Holland.

Logically I wouldn't pay more than 60-70M for him, and that's mostly the potential we'd be paying for. But I know this isn't realistic in today's market.

He's not a real CF and he's a leightweight, too small stature and too light.
We need a tower as CF, with power, who can win duels physically, very good header, someone in front who can catch long balls,
in the penalty area a target for crosses.

Who should we sign as a number 9? It's clear we really need one. Answer can't be in the form of: not.....

Negotiated sum 105m + 20m in add-ons, consider it done. :bartomeu:

What I think we could do is maybe include Vidal and Umtiti in the deal. 60-70m + Vidal (according to TM his market value is 14m though I think we could get around 20m so I'd assume both clubs would use the same valuation) and Umtiti (his current market value is 40m but I don't think we'd get more than 20m if we'd sell him; and it's even more likely we'll have to loan him just to get rid off his wages). So this way we could potentially save some money but it's a very complicated operation with a lot of players and agents involved so unlikely to happen. I could see Vidal accepting going to Inter but I'm not so sure about Umtiti. He'd probably prefer EPL.

But yeah, in general I'd prefer to avoid Lautaro. I like him but just don't believe he's what we need. I would still rather have him than see the return of Snakemar though.

I would risk with Isak but he's not a "big name" enough.

Second option (that I know not many people want right now but would probably be the best longterm) is wait for another season and go for Haaland in 2021. Suarez will still be here and a starter next season (club de amigos thing) and I expect us to be mostly sh** anyway so save some money, wait until amigos contracts are expiring (don't extend them before though which I could totally see happen in Suarez's case) and then start doing a rebuild. Would still take a few years until the likes of Busi and Alba's contracts are up but we have to start somewhere.

I like Lautaro but I agree he is not worth 100+. He is also a bit light-weighted and he has only 1 good season behind him. Problem is I can't see any other solution out there. Maybe we'll go for Neymar and rely on Suaez and Griezmann to fill that central role for another year.

Have to say it's a first for me to hear someone suggest Lautaro has the DNA of Barca - he is, for me, not a typical Barcelona player.

He's quick, strong, good heading & dribbling ability for his size and has a natural goal scoring instinct. Versatile in that he can use his speed/strength to beat his marker(s) but also great at hold up play & invite the pressure - for me, he's in the same category/profile as Falcao, Luis Suarez & Kun

I would not obsess at his previous stats at Inter when he was largely a sub behind Icardi in Spalletti's tactical setup - his current xG is 0.66 for 90 minutes. He's the only #9 I would pursue in the current market
