The only comparison I made with Beckham was the PR / Marketing which has used the exact same tactics Beckham did. Never compared them as players.

A chimp could work out how to market Ronaldo. Plays for 2 of the 3 biggest clubs in the world, fantastic performances, good looks and a great body. No great campaign needed. A natural superstar. There is no sophisticated PR design at play.

Beckham is actually a pretty shy guy who had good looks but his profile mainly benefited from being involved with an insanely popular member of the spice girls when they were at their peak. They were the most famous couple in the whole of the UK by a mile. If he had been romantically involved with an unknown his public visibility and potential to reach audiences beyond football would have been way smaller.

Had not seen the highlights but having read these comments was expecting a wonder goal or a brace or hat trick or great general play. Alas, all I got was a deflected free kick. Imho CR is the most overrated player in history given that there are 100m people on this earth that think he is the GOAT.

It is common to suggest Ronaldo ' done it in Portugal ' and made Sporting great. His record for Sporting? 3 goals in 25 games. This massive overating doesn't seem to occur with any other footballer in history.

It's funny because the 2nd most overrated footballer of all time is Beckham, who shared the same club and shirt as CR and both have GOAT PR and marketing. Coincidence? I think not.

CR7 should be no higher than 15th on any knowledgeable football fans GOAT list.

Add Xavi, Maldini and Buffon to that list and certainly some other guys. For me, they are all greater than that chest beating wall shooter, plastic penalty dependant and criminal tap-in bum who is starting on the wing to have a reason to compare him to Messi but instead is camping in the box the whole game while players like Benzema have to deal with all of his other duties and therefore get the shit for not scoring goals.

Well, that makes it even more commendable.

But I don't agree. He sure didn't had that eye catching elite talent, but still a lot of natural talent was there, otherwise Ferguson wouldn't have asked for him. His dribbles made sense, he ran faster than most, jumped higher than most, his heading is top notch, finishing is top notch, rarely misses penalties, has excellent reading of the game. Sure, on paper they look like they can be attained from hard work, but its not that easy. You need massive commitment and mentality to achieve that, otherwise there might be many like him today.
