Samuel Umtiti

You're welcome
Umtiti is a keeper. The whole team is left exposed with our current no-system play.
The collective morale goes down when the whole as a team plays poorly.

Umtiti isn't the ideal defender just yet.
Makes some slow decisions, passes back way too often which endangers the keeper, late tackles, not aggressive enough.
No doubt he has talent and will develop in future, but I think he is just not ready ATM. I dare say, I prefer Malon.

I agree we should keep him... However, he's too reckless sometimes and until now he was lucky he wasn't caught, so he really needs to improve on that...

He has some work to do on his positioning and passing out the back when being pressured. But I'm confident he will improve overtime.

Umtiti however never struck me as a Abidal or even Pique like defender. I feel he's closer to the Mascherano mold except more wreckless and his positioning is weaker obviously due to age and lack of experience.

out of all the CBs we have in the Main team and the B team I think Marlon is probably the closest to Pique in terms of style than Umtiti is.

This,he plays like Mascherano when he 1st moved to CB,which wasn't bad but he was still probably our weakest link in defense for couple of seasons.
Again,I like Umtiti as a good signing for us but he is just not there yet. And it isn't just a game that changed my opinion.
Many of us pointed out to that before but he was just too popular for us to bother to enter a long discussion about that

There are issues about his positioning and his passing.

Teams look like getting chances any time they pump the ball over the top and his passing is far to safe and not often enough early into the midfield.

Both PSG and Leganes allowed him to have the ball at the back. His high accuracy stats at passing are a bit of a red herring and he is nowhere near on the ball that the likes of Pique and in particular Masch are.

He is fairly brainless as a player. Positioning is bad and he is not winning as many headers as he should. He is a good athlete - but so is Gasol - doesn't mean he will be a footballer.

However the excuses for Umtiti's poor performances have at least a year left in them minimum. 'Can't blame him, was his first european knock out game.' 'Can't blame him it was his first game against Leganes.' Can't blame him it was his first _ _ _ _ ' etc ad infinitum.

As I stated previously, Manolas was the type of player we needed - hence why we negotiated first option on him in the summer. However it seems sadly with Lucho in charge we are just collecting crappy players and hoping they develop into Barcelona style players. This wont happen. Would also be helpful it Lucho is sacked the minute his replacement becomes available so he can hit the ground running.

Yea..he only wins the most aerial duels of all our defenders, has the highest passing % of the whole team, and most passes forward of all defenders.
And thats including Masche playing DM in some games.

A CB having the highest passing % is not a good thing. Especially since most of them are to Pique and Mats.

Nop, like i said, he has the most forward passes of all defenders.

Forward passes doesnt even tell the story. Passing it forward to an open Busi or full back achieves little if just moving it on for sake of it. Pique and Masch do much more than that with the ball and teams know it.

There is a reason teams are leaving him on the ball.

What are you basing these forward passes on?

From watching games it is clear as day to me teams are letting him have the ball and he defers to the easy pass far more than Pique and Masch who are far better on the ball.

Do you not have stats to back up he plays more forward passes? Sounds like you did.
