The players would learn a lot more from actually learning a different style of play and system that they can utilise in future. We are not the best team in the world anymore and we need to learn how to play more defensive.

How boring and a bit unimaginative and weak!
They are three weeks into a "different style of play" and you want them to learn by adapting the entire plan based on the opponents style, instead of building their own. They played three years under Valverde with that kind of mindset, when they had the best player in the world. It won't really work with these players, they need to play 95% on their own strengths and 5% adjust depending on the game, forcing the opponents to adapt instead.
Half of these points are defensive strategies btw, and defensive strategies that actually suit most of the players, and - importantly - suit the players that Barcelona should look for in the future.
