Recall a scrappy win in Pamplona in Pep's first season as well. Late Messi winner in the rain.

Man that goal still gives me the chills. osasuna parked the freaking bus and was kicking the shit out of our team in the rain, little small messi with a rocket. i'm sure that goal still gives them nightmares lolol.

Look at Klopp in Borussia Dortmund. In the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 seasons, he won the Bundesliga.

In the 2011/2012 season, he also won the Pokal final against Bayern by 5-2. In fact, he defeated Bayern five times in a row in those two seasons. And Bayern was a great team, who reached the UCL final in 2012, knocking out Real Madrid in the semi-finals.

But look at Dortmund's Europe record in those same two seasons in which they were so good domestically, winning Bundesliga twice, had a good team, and beat Bayern (one of the greatest teams in Europe) five times. In the 2010/2011 season, he was third place in the Europa League group stage, which had PSG and Sevilla, and fell out before the KOs. In the 2011/2012 season (remember, the same season in which Dortmund won the double, and beat Bayern three times, with Bayern reaching the UCL final), Dortmund was BOTTOM of their UCL group, which had Arsenal, Marseille and Olympiakos! An embarrassment!

Europe is different, and even Klopp took some time before learning how to play in Europe, even when he had good squads. Xavi still has to learn.

Didn't know that. Interesting. I remembered Klopp had early success in Europe.

INIESTAGOAT is the only clueless one. What happens when we exit EL this season and exit CL?
La liga is hopeless. Reason we are top is cause Real lose concentration in the league.
Btw I predict Liverpool will beat ko Real this time in CL.
THE LESS SAID ABOUT XAVI, THE BETTER.

Nice post. True, you need experience in Europe, and this comes in time both for Xavi and for likes of Balde, Araujo, Pedri, Gavi etc. Except for Lewa and partly De Jong, all of our main players don't have much experience in Europe. In fact, a good number of them are near complete rookies at that level.

Funnily enough this reasoning comes now... but under other coaches when those players had less experience then not a peep.

Klopp not doing well initally in Europe with Dortmund is largely irrelevant and trying to blame the players 'lack of experience' for Xavis mistakes is laughable.

Dont play Pedri and Gavi along with done Busquets then blame lack of 'experience' when have likes of FDJ on bench.

Barca had more than enough to do far better at this level... there was the latest world player of the year, a midfielder voted the best in Europe in past, a midfielder that was best mid at Euros a year ago, a midfielder who just won Golden boy and is a Spain international.

There is a GK that won the CL and multiple La Liga... Roberto, Alba, , Pique, Christensen, Alonso all won the CL, Kounde won Europa, FDJ has played in semi final of CL as best mid in competition, Kessie has won Serie A, Lewa was WPOTY and won CL, Torres won EPL and had good record in CL at City at same stages, Raphinha is a Brazil international, Dembele a France international, Depay is a Dutch international and on way to being their top scorer ever,

Comparing that to 'experience' in Klopps side that didnt spend anywere near money or have such high profile players at time is ridiculous.

There is plenty 'experience' in that squad to get past Inter in CL as there was to get past likes of Frankfurt in Europa League.

See this is what happens... terrible posts comparing the ecperience of Xavis players to Klopp from ten years ago come up.. get shot down.. then that makes out to be anti Xavi as dont agree with the terrible post.

My point is that Xavi himself lacks experience in Europe as a coach, and he has a lot to learn in that regard. My point is more about him than the players.

Also, a team like Borussia Dortmund from the 2011/2012 season, when they won the double and beat Bayern three times (remember that Bayern reached the UCL finals that same season, beating Real Madrid on the semifinals) has no excuse to being bottom of a UCL group with Arsenal, Marseille and Olympiakos.

People talking about Xavi lacking experience in Europe.
He lacks experience period.
He should have had his apprenticeship at other clubs, not here
All these great ex players who have a sense 9f entitlement and expect an express route to a top job are being exposed.
This man has shown no glimpses of a proper game plan or coherent project. He's making it up as he goes.

"Two months ago, Borussia Dortmund offered Xavi the manager role. They talked about a 2 year contract with an optional year as an extension. Xavi rejected, knowing that he could join Bar?a at any time after Al Sadd" I remember hearing this at the time and thinking "oh shit" and here we are.

Imagine how fucked Dortmund would've been with xavicross, no chance Bellingham would've developed.

Agreed. Xavi cost Riqui Puig a World Cup spot. Hopefully he stays in MLS long enough to get nationalized and lead the USA to their first ever World Cup trophy.
