Sergio Busquets

Busquets is enjoying the twilight of his career. You can see in the Spain national team right now the gulf of talent difference between he and Rodri. A player who transferred for 20m and then 62m.

But it isn't going to last until 2025. And in a season or two time his new wage is going to be way too much again.

The long, hard, obvious and not popular decision is to not renew Messi and not to extent the contracts of Busquets, Roberto, Pique, etc with reduced wages.

Then fight for the top 3 in LaLiga plus a CL outsiders run.

And between this year and next year clear the dead wage caps and renew the squad with frugal signings and a salary structure, while emphasizing the catchment from LaMasia.

Instead right now we are prolonging the damage with a core of players way past their peak. Not cool, and possibly something that would ever happen at a club like FC Barcelona.

If this cat stays until 2025, I see the following CL progression:

2022: CL R of 16 exit
2023: CL group stage exit 3rd place
2024: CL group stage exit:4th place
2015: No CL.

Please make it stop.

Busquets obviously isn't going to last until 2025, we will probably negotiate his exit in 2023/pay him out. But for two years he will be a massive help given he's our only DM and we probably have to depend on La Masia (Nico etc pp). Doubling his contract length and halving his salary is a fantastic deal for us. No two ways about it. He takes the hit. Same as Messi and Alba (who seems reluctant, because it's a shit deal for him - and maybe rightfully so).

Roberto on the other hand should and most likely will be out.

Of course it is. There's no other way to reduce 300M in wages. No one is going to reduce his wages not even Messi, he will earn the same wages but in 4, 5 or 10 years.
If this isnt done, we'll have only 10-13 players in the squad until 325M in wages.

This club its done for 5-10 years its time to accept it.

Stunning.

We're finished.

If Barca go into the next two seasons with Busi as DM nothing will have changed from all those hammerings in CL and lacklustre performances v Real etc where he looks completely behind pace of game and exposed.

The club are learning absolutely nothing about the defeats and how Barca dont have legs to compete at top level.

But... he still looks good on ball at times against mediocre opposition so his place is safe.

Cannot wait for time when likes of Pique and Busi are long gone.

You realize the situation we are in? But sure, let's go into the season with Frenkie+4 18-year olds. At least they have legs. 4th place it is.

Would rather punt Busquets and have a midfield that can move and run any day of week.

Get used to seeing more of Busi being torn to shreds v any decent team that can get ball in about his areas.

Much like has been for past 3/4 seasons.

It seems you should be getting close to agreeing that Messi needs to leave. I see these next few years being like Man U post 2013 levels of darkness.

You have any suggestion how that would look? I would rather have a decent shot at winning the League with Busquets, maybe building someone up behind him (Ilaix or Nico), and get torn to shreds in the CL, which we will get anyway with 2 youngsters+Frenkie. We have seen a glimpse of that already by the way.

Sign a midfielder.. missing Wijnaldum was an error do best to bring in players.

Rather go Pedri/FDJ in a two with Messi/Griezmann at AM it came to that than watching Busi exposed in every big game as he cant move.

He was shocking v PSG in the hammering.. once again and was awful v Real x2. He cant cope off ball in slightest.

Barca without Busi are still stronger than ever La Liga team that finished behind them last season.

We cant sign ANYBODY on a fee. We can only spend 25% of sales. So for a midfielder of 50M we have to sell players for 200M. Impossible.

It's not that difficult to understand. Pray for Nico, its the only solution.

As I said... missing out on Wijnaldum was a mistake and giving Aguero 5m a season is all money that can go towards improving other areas of pitch.

Should be doing everthing they can to improve midfield but they wont as still rate Busquets as a top player.

That is the problem... at Barca he is bizzarely rated still one of top DMs in world more so than money issues.

We cannot pay more than 8-10M (18-20M with taxes) a year to Wijnaldum, which is what he will earn at PSG. And we cannot bring all the players that a coach asks when this coach will not continue next season at the club, he will be another Pjanic. And you can say that he could be signed before the PSG offer, and I agree, but it doesn't seem like a bad decision because we have seen that the heart and mind of the player were not with us.

I do not understand so much concern about next season, we are not candidates for anything in the Champions League and Wijnaldum was not going to change it. We have to change our mentality, we are not in the top 8 in Europe right now. All the decisions that are made must be economical to have a future. We are in the same situation as 2001-2002 something like that.

And i agree with you, Busquets is shit since years if we dont have posession.
