Samuel Umtiti

JamDavs default setting is giving the board no credit for anything at all :p

If the reported stuff is true (90% salary over a longer period of time) it's a nice gesture from Umtiti.

Nah I said it is a move they had to make. It is not some stroke of genius though as is being made out. It is kicking can further down road which is about only option and right to do.

Can try that one again.

He gets mostly the same amount of money and gets to call himself a Barca player for a few more years. What a life.

He can only say thanks and put his feet up by his pool with dual sangrias in his hands.

Well, they still needed to convince Umtiti. That's something. It's arguably a bad deal for him.

Because he would still be on the books and costing Barca money years after he would normally be gone.

There is a reason the club would never entertain this unless had to due to current inability to sign players.

It is needed move kicking Umtiti issue further down the road. That is all it is.

It makes no difference to him leaving and clubs can offer him same as did before. No club is buying him and if you think Umtiti would leave on 6m salary and not want what he has deferred you are in cloud cuckoo land.

I agree with you on the fact that he would probably be paid all the deferred wages if he is sold so either way he gets 15M. But you can’t argue that this is not a good deal for us especially since we are backed in the corner by our wage cap and inability to register all the players that we need. Now if he would be paid more, then it would have been a bad deal.

It is a the right thing to do but not some great deal but that is not fault of board or position they put themselves in.

Said that already.

If he hadn?t renewed and just stayed here until 2023, he would have received the full value of his old contract plus the value of a new contract at another club after 2023. More money.

Now he has renewed until 2026, which means that he will have to stay at the club for a much longer time to get the same amount of money that his old contract would have guaranteed him in 18 months. Hence why there must be a clause which guarantees Umtiti the same amount of money should he leave before 2026. Otherwise, why do it?

Not sure what is being added there.

Not at all. A deal like this reduces his wage impact for another team on loan/transfer and provide him an opportunity to continue playing, either way he still sees his money which appears to be what he wanted in the end anyway

Some reports suggesting we also decreased his salary by 10% thus saving about 6M. This seems BONKERS as it implies that he earns around 20M per season NET.

I feel there is more to this deal than what they are telling us. Why would Umtiti extend until 2026 if there isn?t a single benefit to him in doing so? There must be a clause in the contract which stipulates that if he leaves prematurely, he?ll be paid out the difference in installments or some other clause which makes it worth his while financially to extend until 2026 without additional monetary gain. Something is rotten in Catalonia. 😅

I guess he'll get it paid until 2026 no matter what, so let's say he joins another club on a permanent basis in summer 2024: He'll get paid until 2026 by two clubs, which are Barca and his new club. At least that's what I would offer as it is a motivation to leave and earn more money in the end.

Short term it is good for the club and the registration of Ferran. Midterm it further burdens the salary cap with an useless player.

The "wage impact" for a possible transfer is a benefit for the club, not him. He was always able to reduce his wages to whatever he wanted if he wanted to play elsewhere. The only benefit for him is that he is now guaranteed to have a club till 2026, while possibly after 2023 he feared no one would want him.
