IMO Neymar of 2015 was fantastic. But gradually he got jelous of Leo Messi. That's when the shit started.

Dude, you are a phenomenal winger, very gifted, but you cannot read the game like Zidane or Messi. You are not a playmaker. Neymar never got over this.

That Neymar in 2015 was just him playing in a tailor made position for him. He was operating like some sort of Thierry Henry. Fast, agile, elusive, with technique to boot, quite good finisher too. Had the package to just score buckets of goals from the wing if he just embraced it.

Imo he wasnt jealous of Messi, he just wanted to be the main man in the team. He proved in 2015 when Messi was injured he is able to do that and how many people had written that this Neymar was the best version of him they ever seen. His talent was too big to be the just a partner of Messi, he was the our best man against PSG and Juve in 16/17 and also he proved his class at PSG but injuries destroyed him.

Quite good finisher sounds low-level,in terms of finishing he had his best year in 2015. Guy was easily top3 finisher in the world.

He excelled in that role too for PSG but injuries stopped him from playing in those crucial CL games.

Neymar deserved to be the main man of a big team.

He was too good to destroy teams all season and watch Messi walk away with all the plaudits. We all know how the Barcelona media and fanbase works.

Neymar's mistake wasn't leaving Barca. Neymar's mistake was joining PSG in the French league. Neymar in 2015 was way too good to be a second fiddle to any player.

The MSN trio was always a ticking time bomb. No matter how friendly they appeared on the outside, it was always gonna end up as a tale of 2 egos. The only thing constant about MSN was Suarez happily being the third fiddle. This is the reason why MSN didn't last long. It was only a matter of time before Neymar became too big to be Messi's lackey.

Ultimately, when Neymar happily reunited with Messi at PSG, the whole world knew that Neymar had missed the train and would never rule World Football. Mbappe was already the man by then.

I know that Neymar's career is more successful than 99.999% of Footballers but it's still one of the biggest disappointments ever. This guy had everything to rule the sport. He had instant fame being the poster boy of the greatest Footballing nation without achieving anything! Not many young prospects have that privilege. I'm sure that Neymar regrets how his career panned out.

You make it sound like Messi didn’t deserve most of the plaudits

Neymar was never really in the same category of Messi and CR7, because those 2 are the greatest and most dominant club players of all time, at worst at modern football.
No matter how good he is, he wasn't going to beat those 2, and being Brazilian he didn't have a chance to wait till those 2 phases out.
It is understandable that he would want his own team by the age of 25, it is the competitive nature of athletes, but how many options did he have anyway? PSG offered him the money, the city and the team. Italian clubs and Bayern wouldn't be able to afford him, and EPL wasn't considered the place for Brazilian to shine at that time, and honestly only Man City would have been a good place for him tbh and it is doubtful that Pep would want him.

So no, while it was understandable that this is what he wanted, it was still the wrong decision for him to leave. There was simply no good option for him to continue developing while being "The man"

The PSG move was good. It is just that that club is culturally fucked up.

Put it this way, if Abu Dhabi group bought PSG, would anyone doubt them being much better run and give the managers and players a proper project to build inside.

Did I say that?

My point was that Messi will always be the main guy/numero uno at Barcelona.

For Neymar to be a BDor favourite he had to leave Barca. How would he win it if he was the second fiddle in his own team?
He never worked as a main guy. The reason for PSG being tge circus it is, is largely due to Neymar himself. He has always been way too immature, mercurial and petty. Messi and Ronaldo led their teams, yes. They were the best players and the biggest stars, yes. But they were both always dependable and mature. Ronaldo gets always the same arrogant rap but lets think for a second.... How many teammates or managers has he gotten rid of? How much locker room drama did he create in his prime years? None. Neymar, immediately as he arrived to PSG got into scuffle with Cavani, demanded him to be sold. After the first season always flirted about moving back to Barca (or other clubs), never learned the language and generally divided the locker room with his clique. There are people who can be trusted to powerful positions and those who should not. Neymar, for all of his talent was never mature or intelligent enough to be the main guy.

Just for fun, a certain user's excuse for Dembele not scoring goals and providing enough assists is because he's a "true winger, whose job is to dribble and create from the touchline." Compare Dembele's heatmap to Salah's and Neymar's

And just look at Neymar's during his highest scoring season at PSG (17/18), what a joke that heatmap is. Shows that you can be all over the pitch, versatile, and still score a shitload of goals if you're good enough. Reinforces my belief that the reason behind Dembele's poor end product isn't because he's a special super type of winger, it's because he's just not good enough (poor movement and finishing). He gets comparable touches in the box and on the touchline to Salah, and has scored 10 less goals in the league. Confirms my eye test that a lot of so called "wide forwards" in top teams spend a lot of time on the touchline like regular wingers, or at the very least not any different to what Dembele does as Birdy would like you to belief.

(You are all welcome to compare Dembele to other high profile, better scoring wingers. You'll get similar results.)
Yeah but prime Neymar is better (talent, ability wise) than anyone not named Messi. So Dembele v Neymar is jusy pointless.

Football ability wise, Neymar is the player you build the team around. A Messi lite.

But personality wise, it is opposite.
