Hey all, glad to be a part of the site and look forward to getting on with everyone, talking all things Barça and celebrating when necessary etc.

Been a fan & follower of the famous Blaugrana since around '92? My memory doesn't serve me well, all I know is I was a kid watching a football match on TV in the back room of my parents house when Barça were playing Manchester United. My Dad & brothers support Aston Villa so I do indeed have a "family obligation" to also support Aston Villa, but I personally support Barcelona. Raised in such a house hold, and to be fair, anyone who supports any team in the Premier League is brought up to loathe Manchester United (or at least those were the 80's, 90's and prior). Naturally watching that game then I supported who ever was against Manchester United in the European Cup/Champions League (can't remember which it was at the time). Aston Villa and Barcelona also share similar colours, but most noticeable is Barça's royal blue instead of sky/light blue.

It was on this occasion my Dad walked into the room and added to my confusion at a young age, that on this one time we were allowed to support another English club even if it is Man U, because apparently we have to support English clubs in the European competitions as they are "English clubs". At the point I did disagree with him but was baffled & bewildered at the same time.

I continued to watch the game and secretly cheered on Barça, enjoying their style of play and amazed at how well they played. I had never seen anything like it before. Naturally I am also rebellious to anything my parents like, they enjoy music by the beetles so of course I love death metal & dnb, and hate pop music.

Since then I have quietly supported Barcelona, until recently I have moved into my own house and can freely watch, listen and read news, matches etc without that burning sensation in the back of my head & anyone looking over my shoulder.

If you haven't guessed already I'm from the UK in the Birmingham area. A lot of people from the UK however are firm believers of "support your local team", and to be honest, that can be said for almost any fans from teams around the World with that naive & Neanderthal way of thinking. I've even seen Barça fans reject other Blaugrana followers because they don't "live within 200 miles", which is sad because it goes against everything the club stands for? Més que un club, Som un equip, and a club that unites the World. You could argue that the "El Cant del Barça" also invites fans from any where, we are all welcome to support FCB?

Anyway that's about enough from me, I can't wait for February as well, as my wife would love to spend Valentine's in Barcelona and hopefully we will be watching Barça vs Levante on the 15th; I hope so! Because we've brought the tickets haha just waiting on the time of kick off to be confirmed and pray they don't move the date.

Thanks for reading.

I'm from the UK too. Don't worry about not being catalan or whatever. Gamper was suisse, Cruyff dutch, Messi argentine. Camp Nou has quite an international feel sometimes. People from everywhere

Definitely.

We only need to look at the clubs heritage and see who it was founded by.

You do get some silly people around though when they ask who you support, it's bitter hatred born from jealousy and naive thinking.

It's nice to support your local team and I do, but in my case Barca comes first. Heck, couple of times I went to a local match with Barca jersey. I don't care. I love football and I love how Barca plays the game.
The biggest thing about Barca are supporters and how diverse we are. Many people who don't follow football very often, support Barca and I think it's a great thing b/c it shows the quality of the club, values and the style of play. It's more then a club for Catalonia, but also for many more outside of it.

Visca el Barca. Good to have you here.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Yeah our local team is Aston Villa, through family they support and instilled that to me since birth lol but personal choice I put Barça ahead as they are the team I chose to support for various reasons. Their style of play, how well they play the game & do the name of football proud, ethics and what they stand for. You're completely right, més que un club.

Glad to be here & thanks again all :beer2:
