Enrique is the coach. A treble-winning coach now. His wishes surely have a great influence in which players are bought or sold. Vidal was his choice, the type of player he loves.

Yeah, he surely has substantial influence esp now that he won the treble. How does this work though? Lucho has to focus mostly on his coaching responsibilities, he cant really know that much about whats available in the market.

Remember how Pep became obsessed with Chygrynskiy after he played against us and we made him one of the most expensive CBs ever. Chygrynskiy has been so bad since we sold him that he was released by Shakthar a few months ago.

Usually coach demands reinforcement at certain position and ask for certain players at it .there is a grey area here depending on the coach/board/sporting director .sometimes what the coach wants he gets no question asked, other times the club will go for other options depending in the market .obviously 1st choice is to work together and the sporting director will be telling the coach about who is in the market and who isn't
for example in 2009 ,the club wanted Villa and didn't want Chygrynskiy but pep wanted Chyg&Ibra and put his renewal talks on hold IIRC .he got what he wanted .but in 2008 he wanted Adebayor in and Eto out and the club told him to work with what he has
obviously in most cases the coach is more right but those are the examples on my head right now
he club may sign "relatively unknown" players based on scouting like Varane with RM and Douglas with us
Right now Lucho will have a huge influence in the club and he will use it in his favor .

Our last summer signings were also on Lucho and his team mostly.

ter Stegen was Zubi's signing and only his(several board members wanted to chase Courtois like idiots), but that was already done before Lucho arrived. Rakitic, Mathieu and Bravo were obviously his team's signings. Douglas and Vermaelen on Zubi/board again. In Verm's case the medical team adviced against signing him, but Zubi overruled the medical team.

Vermaelen and Douglas were signed in place of Marquinhos and Cuadrado, both players Lucho requested for.

Mathieu was Zubi's guy no doubt ,he was targeting him since 2013
Mixed talking about Vermaelen ,seem that Lucho liked him a lot even if he wasn't top of his list
Suarez was Lucho choice too IIRC

So it seems like Lucho mostly feel safe about signing players from La Liga? It makes sense that he really doesnt know much about what is available in the rest of the world. He has to focus on his coaching responsibilities. Maybe he has a right hand man who follows lots of markets and whose player recommendations he values highly?

You could prob put both as Zubi/Lucho's signing.

Coaches follow other league .Lucho still follow Calcio since he coached Roma and he asked Marquinhos b/c he liked him since he was in Calcio and also wanted Cuadrado too .I am pretty sure he followed the likes of Pogba & Kovacic .
there is no right hand man, there is sporting director (will it is more of committee now ) who will tell him who is available

Jombi Why not?
Can't he watch games/watch players play live?
He's one of the biggest coaches currently, he surely knows who Mateo Kovacic (or Pogba or whoever you are discussing) is and has seen him play a few times, so maybe he wondered how good he is and watched a few replays of his games, or assigned scouts to make reports of the games he played. To say "he cant really know that much about whats available in the market" is ridiculous.

If this is true, we are screwed:
http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/587539/Juventus-secret-talks-deal-Liverpool-Arsenal-target-Mateo-Kovacic

Juve will sell a clown Pogba for 100m to us, they will get Kovacic for cheap, and then they will sell him to us again, in 2-3 years for 60 Millions.

Manicini already said he counts on Kovacic next season ,as it stands now he is going nowhere and if he moved it won't be for cheap .English media already said Vidal will go for Arsenal for same price tag .Sport and Mundo are like a credible source in comparson to them .Tuttosport isn't reliable either

TUttosport apparently claimed that Bayern made contacts with Inter on buying Kovacic.

If we are to believe numbers from the English media (express.co.uk), Inter wants 21m pounds (30m euros) for him? Cheap.

Maybe if they bid 80m we would get interested. At 21m not a chance...
