Why does he look like he hasn't slept in a month?

Went to the midlands a bit back with a partner to get some things. Needed to buy time and went to the Greggs near Villa Park.

Server said to me you must not be from around here, that I looked like I hadn't slept for a month.

Said the body will gradually adapt to the shock and disappointment that fills the air.

Don Juan Laporta Estruch

Basta yaaaaaaa, Cabron ! y Bona nit 🥂
So, he basically cost 6.3m in wages for a 6 month loan. And at the end of it you would have the pleasure of a 48m buy option. 🤮

In our current position, that would have been one of the worst loan deals in the history of this football club.

And some people are still upset it didn't go through. :rofl1:

He's a quality player when he's on his game. I don't know how there can be any debate about that. His issue has been that he hung around at a toxic club for far too long when it was clear a fresh challenge was what he desperately needed. You could put Yamal in the United team and they would soon make him look average.

Taking him off against PSG when he was causing them all sorts of problems was a big mistake by Emery.

He's proven an excellent signing for them and had we not the FFP problems, would have been wildly useful for us. In hindsight.

He's useful for any side that likes to play counter attacking football, or at least has the ability to counter quickly. For all his flaws he's still someone full-backs generally fear when he's running at them.

He has seemingly done well in his loan spell and it was recently reported he is willing to reduce his wages to join us this summer.

Honestly if we can get him for 30m or on a season long loan at first he might not be a terrible option.

LW market is dry as a desert when Rashford seems like a decent option.

Would rather have Nick for 60m then, but guess we’re not necesarily in a position to spend that kind of money.

Here's the thing with Nico though.

It's 60m the club have to pay in cash because Athletic won't negotiate. Paying a transfer fee in a lump sum might affect our FFP/finances more negatively than paying one in in installments as most fees usually are paid. Especially if the club want to take out a loan to pay for it instead of using whatever cash reserves they have.

Then it's his salary as well. Athletic are not a poor club and their way of retaining talent is by paying them very well. He's on a very high salary there which we'll probably have to match at the very least.

Question then comes down to how highly do you rate Nico Williams to pay 60m in cash + 15m per year in salary before taxes. It would make him a top five highest paid player at the club unless he's willing to reduce his salary.

Signing someone like Rashford or even Luis Diaz for a lower fee + lower salary gives the club 2-3 years to see how the market develops and possibly either find the next great talent at the position or sign someone better. Like could Barcola be available in two years with the tough competition in Paris or someone better?

I cannot for sure say which option is better. All these players have their flaws.

The most important thing is to get a LW who is quick or explosive and is good 1v1, and is capable of scoring goals as well. Not expecting a high volume scorer, but someone that is capable.

Good points. In the end we need someone who can stretch the pitch and provide a threat from the left. Lamine drags so many defenders to his side and we don’t punish our opponents for leaving all that space often enough.
