Marcus Rashford

I don’t disagree with you. His career has been terribly inconsistent. Sometimes impressive stats, other time subpar. With that said, under the right guidance and management, he may be worthwhile bringing in on a loan if the fee/salary is reasonable. Season is long so we should be bolstering the squad. He doesn’t have to have a super season here, but merely be available to play when our top players need rest so that we won’t be so bloody burnt out at the end of the season.

and you know… maybe he could replicate his 23 season. Who knows! Players tend to wanna show their worth when they come here.

Another thing is that he's far better on the counter, in transition.

I know Barca are brilliant and devastating when they get to counter under Flick, but they play against a lot of low blocks too. Rashford never does well in those games. That's why he has a great goalscoring record against big teams - sides like Liverpool and City have high defensive lines and allow him to run in behind just beating the offside trap.

If Barca want another player like that, fair enough. But with Raphinha they seem to have that already (admittedly as you say Rash would be backup, but again would he accept that?).

Plus, from what I've seen, most of the United criticism of him is his lack of effort and if he pulls that shit here under Flick, no amount of PR will be enough.

His "ST" profile will be somewhat similar to what Ferran is. He will never be your back to the goal striker. Its more of the CF role that Dembele plays.
But with the added benefit of him being a bit bigger and heavier.

Anyway I know you lads probably think I have something against him.

It's just I think he's hugely hyped by the English media. And he's a perfect example of getting stats while being poor in general play, and I don't like those players.

But I will stop going on about him now. Obviously if Barca do end up loaning him (which I don't think they will) I want him to do well.

Fair enough. I respect your opinion and hope you do the same for me. It's a game of differing viewpoints.

If he does go to Barca on loan I hope he does well, as I much prefer to see him score goals and perform well for Barca than Man United, lol.

Nah you make fair points and if we actually sign him on a perma transfer I won't be very happy, just think on loan and seeing how Flick has improved almost every player + WC year gives me some hope in Rashford.

As you said you don't think we'll loan him tho, who else do you see us going for realistically?

Fair enough, and thanks.

To show some positivity around the player, I have said before that I think Man United are scapegoating he (and Sancho) as everything that's wrong with their club. He's toxic to a point but they have made out like getting rid of him solves all their problems, and that is far from the case. So he and Sancho are sacrificial lambs to a point.

Honestly, I have no idea who they'd go for. I don't have as much world football knowledge of players I had when I was younger, so don't know as many young hotshots. The names being bandied around seem to be Rash, Leao, Lookman and Diaz. I like Lookman and think he'd be a good rotation option, said that before. That said, Messi983 made a good point that some players don't do as well outside of Gasperini's system (and Lookman has been most impressive in his club career at Atalanta).

Out of those four, I like Lookman. They're all talented to different degrees, but they all come with massive drawbacks too. With the financial constraints Barca appear to be operating under, I am not sure who they will go for.

What I do agree with is you need a LW backup. But the pickings are quite slim/flawed. None of those four options really screams as being better than the other three.

Who would you like to see them go for? You seem to lean rashford for fair enough reasons (not gonna pay big wages hopefully, motivate him in a World Cup season, then get rid after a year loan). Is there anyone else you fancy?
