Bottom line they have the cash and finally got over their superstar fetish. They got the right manager and the right players and won it.
In 25 years noone will call PSG and City plastic. Chelsea were labelled that when Abramivich took over and now they've established themselves with 2 CL wins. I suspect in the future Newcastle will win it too. City or PSG will definitely win another CL or two in the next decade.

The league is a somewhat valid point, however it does go both ways.

It is a major benefit having an uncompetitive league that you don't prioritise during your season. It is certain that if we had Liga wrapped up months early like they did we would have likely won the CL. But we had to concentrate on it till the end and use our best players there. The same goes for Inter whose old squad became majorly fatigued towards the end of the season.

Alternatively you can say that PSG don't face challenging competition and this can affect their level. But from what we've seen it is the opposite, EPL is considered the best league but their results in CL are not as impressive as you'd expect, and I think that is mainly because their league season is very tough and fatiguing.

I congratulate Enrique for his accuracy in the rebuild of the squad, however I don't see this as a great achievement for their institution in general, after all when you throw that much shit at the wall some of it has to stick eventually.

At the end of the day what we have seen is money eventually wins out in football. Low budget contenders even if they have purple patches eventually fall away (like Inter) , and the titans of spending rise to the top, PSG, City, etc. And Chelsea are coming back after the initial issues, in the long run budget is the deciding factor.

Barca and Madrid are outliers who remain elite because of huge amounts of revenue that can fund their spending. Otherwise, the best teams now play moneyball.
