Messi 17-19 was class under EV but look at his performance at the WC 2018 and Copa 2019. Clearly the setup EV had for him at Barca deserves credit for getting the best out of him

You could be right, Messi's WC 2018 was really weak ( seeing the performances its hard to realize that this was 2018 Messi compared to his barca matches) , in copa also until against brazil in which he was worldclass.

Messi without EV: 6 Ballon D'Or, 3-4 CL, 8 LL, 91 goals in a calendar year

EV without Messi: Unemployed bum who would be lucky to get a job at a B tier club.

Facts are facts.

EV got Messi a Balon Dor with no international trophy or UCL win

Pipe down and be grateful to the mister

Rassvet was speaking about 'after peak Messi' time and we have to say his best time during this period of time was under EV.

Tru. Messi's club career post 2015 is pretty unimpressive besides the time under EV.

Without EV, he has one league title in four years where he wasn't even the most important player (that was Suarez} in that title win.

HIs CL form post 2015 without EV is also quite a letdown. His only legendary performance was probably the home hattrick vs City in the group stages while he had like 7-8 legendary ones in the 2 years under EV including many in the knockout stages.

EV deserves his respect quite clearly

Agreed and I'm tired of people suspecting Valverde even AFTER our situatuon here.

Either respect Valverde or fuck off with Dembele as far as I'm concerned

Messi was furious that Valverde was sacked

The Argentine describes Valverde as a 'great coach' and a 'great person'.
He admits the players were more to blame for the negative results than the manager.
Messi particularly rues the 3-2 Atletico Madrid defeat which sealed Valverde's fate.

Against Atleti, we had the game almost done and in 5 mins we were out of the Supercopa. That's why it ended how it did. It's a shame."

. He told Mundo Deportivo: "[Valverde was] not just a great coach but a great person. The players were more at fault than him, It's easier to sack the coach than change the players."

Ernesto "the only person who needs to run is the referee" Valverde.

He may very well have been a genius of the game, and a friend of the amigos. But boy was his way of running a team archaic, and probably the root cause of our decay and rut to get how.

If you go back and watch the Madrid ties he won, or even Liverpool. It was the opponents over running us, missing their chances and an out of this world motivated Messi winning it with his absolute brilliance.

So sure it worked for Messi and the amigos who latched onto making sure he played his best game, and the rest who held the structure for all of that. But we were poisoning ourselves long term and we didnt even know it.

At the end of the day, his record speaks for itself, 2 easy league titles and still league leader when sacked, none of the coaches since came even close to replicating his results, nothing his haters can do about that.

And contrary to the alternate history often represented on this board, he did not take over a team at its peak, did everyone just forget the mood around here in the summer of 2017? Everything was going downhill, then EV steadied the ship and even almost went unbeaten.

Well said Morty, replacing the maestro with Setien was an insult for EV.
