Lionel Messi - v7

No they cant it would still be used if went to court.

The ball will be put in court of City and Barca will refer to 700m would be my guess.

It won't go to court. Nobody really has the intention to drag this for years, considering next season he will be free to go.

Barca should propose a sum because it is the last chance they get some solid money for Messi. Him going free in 9 months helps us in absolutely no way.

It shouldnt go to court but the threat is always there for that and/or being left to FIFA to agree a fee.

Barca propose a sum and City can probably sign him and let FIFA decide on fee with the sum put forward by Barca as worst case scenario.

City dont need Barca to provide a sum to assess what is the most they are willing to bid.

It's pathetic we're haggling over 9 months, especially when he's basically been here his whole life, and he's won everything he can possibly can here. He's also brought in a lot of money to the club. Not to mention, he can sign a pre-contract with any club he chooses to in 4 months. If Bartomeu's idea is to try to convince Messi to stay here till June so the new board can convince him to stay.... it's not a very good idea.

We should just sell him and give him a good send-off. He deserves at least that much.

I see what you are saying, but the months Messi has left makes it very very unlikely it goes to court in my opinion. If he had like 3 years left and he forced his way out, no doubt it would get to court. But Messi won't force it with so few months left.

He bluffed, and Barca didn't flinch. But imo they should now find a way to get something from him and move him now, because it is very probable he'll take roughly 90m in gross wages for 9 months of doing little. And will move for free. We need that money next summer for transfers.

Up to him and City to put bid together then.

You are trying to set up circumstances where can bitch about club not selling him when at moment City have not bid and most media suggests they wont.

Less time makes it more likely to go to FIFA for a fee than it would if three years.

I doubt City want that but it will be a threat used as leverage and Barca will have that in mind.

It is on City/Messi to get together and agree on finances towards a bid.

City may eventually put in a bid. Messi may eventually go public and state he still wants to leave. Bartomeu and Messi may negotiate an exit.

We'll just have to wait and see. But what I know for sure is, keeping Messi here for another year doesn't benefit the club at all. We all know it's going to end in tears.

Messi should not go for free.

Next season is more or less a right off either way.

Yes, but it still cost us nearly 90m in gross wages. So, if next season is a write off either way, I'd rather save those 90m than give it to Messi. That's Camavinga for example right there.

We know he shouldn't go for free. This is why Bartomeu needs to stop being stubborn and negotiate a deal with Messi or something. Keeping Messi here next season isn't going to do much. Yeah, we may up winning a few extra games and whatnot. But we're not going to win anything next season. Our squad is complete shit compared to the other top teams, especially our defense.

Also is still face of Barca and will be more interest in club in his final season. Can still keep him not make the changes needed and not much will be lost and finances with him at club wont be to a cost of 90m.

On principle as well he should not get a move to City for free either.

If the crazy numbers suggested are true then he and City need to work out a bid.

No... City need to make a bid and not wait for Barca.

If no bids go on that are seen as worthy then it is on City not Barca.

You are desperate to have a situation to blame club for not selling him.

Well, they won't and he'll leave for free. And we remain with the principle. It's shit for us any way you slice or dice it.
