Lionel Messi - v7

Would you let Messi go if you had to decide ?

In this moment, yes

This will be a slow death.

Even if our team around Messi improves, still:
1. there won't be teamplay but "Fc LetsPassToMessi"
2. Messi will run even less due to age
3. His dribbles will decline even more
4. His shooting will also probably decline

Financially, maybe we'll earn more money from sponsors with Messi in a team (more than we would get from 100m fee minus his wages).

So, the only positives:
1. money from sponsors and money for La liga
2. a better farewell for Messi

Sporting wise:
1. meh, same old slow Barca, probably similar to EV's Barca

You can't speed up this Barca when the old Messi is the key part of it.

Anyone thinking Medrano will allow La Liga most valuable asset to leave out of the blue is very green. La Liga can't afford to be in the red. Simple economics. And colours.

Honestly only his stamina will decline.

His dribbling is still god like ( check his completed dribbles), shooting is just off under Setien, he will get it back soon.

His dribbling is not god like anymore.

It is probably half the level it used to be in his prime, where he folded world class defenders or fullbacks at a whim. If he was still able to dribble at the same level, we might have snuck one of the Roma or Pool ties (to be fair, he did almost get us home here).

His dribbling stats may still seem god-like the last few years, but the truth is that he is nowhere near his younger self(and I'm not talking about 2008-2012ish when he was the GOAT dribbler, I think he has declined substantially even compared to his 2015-2017 self). Of course, this decline is understandable for his age.

As for the whole saga,I think it's pointless for him to stay another year, for all parties. Don't get me wrong, I would like it if he finished his career at Barca or at least if he got a proper farewell(which to be fair would never be possible under the coronavirus measures). However, right now his relationship with the board and maybe even Koeman is in a really bad place. Furthermore,as many people have pointed out, our team won't be competitive for the next few years(at best),so there's no point for him to waste another year of his career here, just to leave one year later, aged 34. Unless he genuinely wants to finish his career at the Camp Nou.

Exactly and theres no shame in players declining but Messi still wants to dribble past everyone from deep with no stamina and a lack of pace, its painful to watch them take the ball from him so easily

True they lost so many superstars in the past three years. Messi is the last one holding La Liga together in terms of market share and tv contracts.
But it's time 2010s was for La Liga but now the winding is blowing for PL to be the place to be in the 2020s

I remind you that the player in his worst season scored more than 30 goals and more than 20 assists. All this criticality is turning into nonsense

Weren't at least 10 out of those goals from free kicks and penaldos.

No offense, but 20 goals from an open play in a weak La liga when the whole team is built around you and everyone are passing to you in every situation isn't THAT awesome stat anymore.

He is getting in less and less chances.
And his shooting was really off the whole 2020'.

Can't see how on earth we will line-up with the players we currently have. We need to desperately mask Messi's lack of movement/running so I really can't see playing him in anything other than the striker role with Saurez leaving.

I don't see how CURRENT Messi can play in any position on at 4-2-3-1 formation other than in the ST position.

MAtS
Semedo - Pique/Garcia - Lenglet - Alba
FDJ-Pjanic/Gini
Trincao/another RW - Griezmann/Coutinho/Puig - Fati/Dembele
Messi

Our squad is straight up terrible lmao...no balance at all.

This is something many people seem to neglect

Without Messi would be looking at Dembele RW, Coutinho LW/10 and Griezmann CF would think.

Wijnaldum CM/AM, FDJ/Pjanic sitting but all three quite fluid.

Wont win CL but is stronger than a lot make out and far better side than likes of Sevilla and young players can be given time to work way in.

With Messi... no idea how team lines up.

Leo Messi and his father, Jorge Messi, have had lunch together to analyze the next steps to take after the meeting between Josep Maria Bartomeu and Messi's family. Messi already knows that it will not be as easy as it was thought as per

A new Josep Maria Bartomeu-Jorge Messi meeting is expected soon to try to unblock the situation as per
