Lionel Messi - v7

So you think the club prioritized allocating salary cap to Aguero, Emerson, Depay and Eric Garcia ahead of renewing Messi?

The one that supposedly brings more income to the club than he costs.

That the club left the renewal of Messi in the hands of wage dumping the Umtitis, Countinhos, Roberto's and Pjanics?

Messi is also holding out for whatever motives. Because this renewal would have been the clubs priority above all.

Good point, probably not, but they had to sign those players before Messi would even agree to re-sign, sooo.. not sure what they could do.

It seems like no player is willing to leave. Garbage situation.

don't think messi got excited at the thought of us getting garcia, depay or wijnaldum. he knows full well our situation and what we can do.

it's clear that it is just a matter of time before he announces he's staying.

He was excited about Wijnaldum for sure until he snubbed us for a better project

But, contrary to reports of an imminent signing and announcement, those formalities are on hold, Sky Sports News has been told, with a final agreement still to be reached (Sky)

Leo gets blamed for everything bad that happens to Argentina. Therefore, I wouldn't expect him to announce anything regarding his future/signing his new contract until the tournament is over/Argentina are out. Otherwise they'll blame him afterwards that he wasn't focused on Argentina but on sorting out his future.

He's taking a huge Paycut.

From 144m to 60M.

I just had a very interesting thought. Lio's story is the exact opposite of Christ. Christ was initially the sacrificial lamb, and then resurrected as king. Otoh Lio was the undisputed king of football, and now has slowly become the sacrificial lamb for Barca's incompetence.

He was earning 138 m a year. He will earn 100 m a year with taxes.Source is Calciofinanza.

Not quite 100 millions a year according to that source.

It will be 200 millions salary for those 2 years at Barca but over a 5 years contract (even if he leaves the club or retires). It is structured as 40 millions per year for 5 years.

He will get 40mio if he leaves the club or retire? What is that for a silly contract ?
