I'm not necessarily saying the same as Birdy - I still think Real Madrid could do the double as they have individual quality, experience and know how of doing it before. It's a big if, but could happen.

I am simply talking about the pointlessness of graphics like the one posted earlier. You have to watch these players to get a feel for how they are performing - it's too easy to scratch out stats and moments while being a liability the rest of the time. Fernandes for example is a big problem for Man United and the play revolves around him and he (and previously Rashford) forced them into being a rudimentary counter-attack side as that was the only way those two could maximise their stats. However, it got the team absolutely nowhere. Then their fans have Stockholm Syndrome and think they can 'achieve nothing without Bruno' (even though they achieve nothing with him, they need to get rid of him and build a cohesive team not built around Bruno's hero ball).

This isn't the same as Bellingham, as he's a better footballer outside stats than Fernandes, but the principle is the same.

Bellingham has great work rate and does contribute defensively. He has covered for Mbappe and Vini's laziness. One thing you can't criticise him for is his work ethic. Very hardworking on and off the ball.


Do G/A matter? Ofcourse it does because it's the most decisive metric in the sport. But you cannot ignore the context. Stats definitely matter for forwards. There's no debate about that. Forwards should be effective in the final third because that's their primary job. Does it matter for midfielders? Not necessarily but it's fantastic if a CM/AM can chip in with goals like Lampard did. It helps the manager and the forwards out a lot and eases pressure.


Goal threat from midfield is a huge asset because it's unpredictable and late runs are nearly impossible to defend against.


I don't see Bellingham as a G/A merchant like Bruno. I see Bellingham as a very well rounded hardworking player who happens to be great in the final third. Bellingham is great on the ball too. He has leadership qualities and confidence and always tries to get involved in the game unlike fairweather players who often hide from the ball.

Often see him in midfield setting the tempo, dropping deep to take the ball off the defenders, then stretching the pitch with a long ball. Or he's the one making the run to stretch the pitch, allowing the more intricate players the space and time. Works his arse of defending and pressuring the opponent which is hugely important these days, especially in a team where winning the ball back for a counter with Vinicius/Mbappe is on the cards. Would be heralded as best player in the world if he played for us.

Best moves of his are not even those anywhere near the goal at all. It's those turns and lightning fast awareness around halfway line on the counter where to place the ball for a winger making a run like that pass to Fran/Rodrygo(?) in 2nd half. Does that many a time when opponent presses high - and they almost always do when they don't fear to attack
