Yeah, Laporta sounds real naive on this. Not that it didn't feel like the club was run by external members in the last 7-8 years with all these "megatransfers".

But haven't socio's gone through years worth of a process to become one?

Yes, they did. From the information the club gave and what the pressed has described regarding change to Article 12, it appears they might want to speed up the process of becoming a soci, not just having the ability to do everything online. I could be wrong here.

If they uphold the current process (3 years of being a commitment card holder and then you get to become a soci, for those who that are not related to an existing soci through blood and marriage), it'd be better but still there might be potential room for abuse.

4 voted against (and 9 abstained) modifying Article 4 to recognize the principles of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, ie. anti-racist, anti-homophobic and anti-sexist etc.

Who the hell are these 13 socis? WTH

Modifying Article 12 (opening up membership registration eletronically) passed, with 257 yay, 61 nay and 26 abstained.

Not a big deal.

The club sets its own rules. If they see external benefactors trying to take over the club by signing up for membership en masse they can rescind those memberships.

Besides 95% of the new members that will sign up online won't travel to vote in elections and such.

We rejected H & M as a shirt sponsor because they oppose China's concentration camps :lol::lol::lol: Those socis probably don't want the club to pretend that means anything

Also: Signing up for a club membership isn't like signing up for Facebook or Twitter. You need to provide a legitimate ID, legitimate address, phone number, etc.

I really doubt some Saudi Prince could drop 100k memberships like that. It just isn't that easy or worth the time for them.

A bit of stretch here of course, but theoretically a Saudi princess or a Russian tycoon or whatever rich guy from any part of the world could direct his subordinates/people to register and provide legitimate and real personal identifiable information etc., and then direct them to vote in one way or the other. And who knows, they might even open up online voting soon (something that was mulled by Bartomeu already).

The club so far is very wishy washy about the mechanism in place, we will have to hope for the best.

Yeah....no that isn't happening.

Otherwise it would have happened a long time ago elsewhere.

Just checked the official site, the section on commitment card is blank (without any content) and the page regarding registering adult members has completely changed, it makes no reference to having to become a commitment card holder first and hold it for 3 years etc.

If this is not a technical error, they are changing the entire process, not just having the ability to register online.

Let's hope this is worth it. How much more money will be brought in, with 185 euros each year per person? I doubt it. 10 years from now, Laporta is not going to be the president, but changes made today will have its impact and consequences.
