Not sure about this being top 3 worse situations, Barca had like 30 years with 2 league titles during the 60's, 70's and 80's, never mind how the club had it during the Spanish civil war or during Franco's time.

Not taking anything from Laporta, but this club had it rough tbh. There is a reason it has the second most "nationalist" identity after Bilbao among all big clubs. They have gone through some awful shit, that what Laporta had to work with is probably a peace of cake in comparison to some of the previous eras.
Perhaps, most of the 1960-74 period was spent paying off the debts accumulated in the construction of the Camp Nou, which made the club live in insane levels of austerity. 1974 onwards the club became better financially and truly became a financial powerhouse after Josep Lluis Nuñez became president in 1978. Slowly he built the club to become a brand and the trophies started raking in. How I see it, most of the trouble in that period was austerity due to the Camp Nou construction, political instability and bad transfer dealings.

Club just wasn’t good enough for most of that period. Pre 2nd stint Laporta Barcelona was very dire though, club was barely hanging on to it’s existence so the situation was that bad. Unlike the 1960-89 period where they were stable but they didn’t have the finances, leadership and academy players to became a greater force of football at the time.

Funny thing is despite that we are the only football club in Europe to consistently qualify for European competition since 1955.

Laporta:

"Why did I set a return date for Spotify Camp Nou? We had information that the required licenses would arrive in time. In fact, the business license and the activity license arrived, but the one that did not arrive was the initial occupancy license."

"We will return to Spotify Camp Nou as soon as possible. Now we are working alongside the municipality to overcome all obstacles. We respect and comply with what they have decided, and our technical team is pushing to return as quickly as possible."

"Was it a mistake I set dates? If you don't set dates, you won't create pressure. The company are doing their job, but we cannot be relaxed. I am putting pressure on my team inside the club, and I try to pressure the construction company to the fullest."

He really has an excuse for everything. It’s just never, «Sorry, my bad, I made a mistake». Can’t stand those kind of people. Never owning up to shit in life. Also, keep Leo’s name out of your mouth, you fat fuck. I know he would appreciate it.

Talked about possibility of not getting back for Valencia match 14th of September and also not being able to play first Champions League match either. So he basically admitted it.
Budget is projected for Barca back at Camp Nou, so we are fucked. Just remains to see how much.

It's all a big if and when right now. No one can predict the return at this point, since we don't know at what point the city council will clear the stadium.
For LaLiga, it's not too bad as you can return at any point. A few more home games at the Montjuic won't harm the budget much. The CL is a bit different story, as we would have to play the entire group stage at the Montjuic, meaning 4 home games. Can only wait and see.

If you set dates you create pressure not only for the contractor but yourself.

One thing they need to learn, is under promise, ove deliver.

Deco I'm looking at you.

At a minimum, a series of gross miscalculations of well intentioned strategies that were poorly executed

Club has to be run by collaborative leadership with expertise in different sectors - I have the impression there is a concerning absence of sufficient council to Laporta. Deco the agent does not yet give any indication he has the chops to be a SD much level one at a level required at a club like Barça

But the planning & quality assurance sectors missed the boat on city permits for Camp Nou and vendor qualification for tour, leaving them with a cold shower on top of the unnecessary media coverage it triggered

The Limak criticism doesn’t justify to much disdain for me at the moment as this sounds increasingly like a labor issue but it does reveal the oversight was poor to again ensure the quality of workforce was not a risk. But that risk exists in every industry and frankly delays are part of business

The Ter Stegen one is an odd one. I can get the strategy to want him out with the abrupt pursuit of Joan Garcia but surely there was a well conceived strategy to address Mats as a result. Because they must’ve known about the back since last season and that surgery may have been on the table but has every thing been banking on it simply being his WC season? At worst, surely they considered club would be stuck with Mats and accept not playing. Again, feels poorly executed despite how well intentioned the sporting strategy — that’s a real shame the way it is a major distraction now. And frankly, Laporta was the driver behind this and has to accept the blowback for how the Mats thing plays out

The infamous 1:1 and what more or less was what Tebas likely confirmed to Nico & his agent in that infamous rendezvous before pulling out of Barça deal. Something related to the VIP seats continued to be at issue to prevent registering payments and now even the proportion of completed seats required - that bit a bit bizarre in accounting terms, very much a Liga/Tebas bullying criteria demands. This feels more like miscalculation on what would be validated and when which impacted everything after. Here collaborative discussions with sufficient expertise is clearly lacking. At a minimum, his board needs improvement/support in terms of relevant expertise. Feels painfully lacking

On the heels of the Nico debacle, makes you wonder how forced this Rashford transfer was in terms of timing. I suspect he was always coming but were the terms impacted by that urgency? No specific details yet confirmed by club despite variable rumoured ones on social media of 10-14M in gross wages. The penalty clause as an accounting hack for FFP is fine, but this too yet to be confirmed

He’s taken some hits that he could’ve avoided if they were better executed from the beginning to anticipate what city requirements would’ve been needed by when etc. But again, delays in construction are the norm rather than an objective failure. Don’t promise what you can’t deliver

Laporta spent too much time in the middle east.

When I was there the taxi drivers would do a little prayer, and then drive crazy without wearing their seatbelt.

When I asked them why don't they drive more carefully or wear their seatbelt they said.

Pass to Messi and Inshallah.
