So much doom and gloom.
It's almost like people don't realise we have Klopp on steroids at the wheel.
I walk around my town with a full on erection sticking out of my trousers. When people ask me what I'm doing I look at them quizzically and say " Don't you know Don Hansi is the manager of our beautiful club? "
They reply " Well that's not a reason to get so excited is it?". I tell them " Well that's true, but when you realise also that DON JUAN LAPORTA is the PRESI of our beautiful club ....... "

At least we're distracted for a while from Ter Stegen, stadium, 1:1, Gavi-Fermin stories.

Because we have 3 pure CBs. Others can fill in but in Flick's eyes they are primarily playing in other positions. I think Martin could join them this season if we judge by preseason. Jofre will be the reserve LB and Martin a backup CB. Not sure it's a good idea though.
Eric will still fill in as CB as Kounde will likely play most games anyway, just a few less than last season. Eric can't just be sitting on his arse to play 5-10 games all season. If needed he will be 4th CB.

Was our best defender last season. And maybe could have been the same this year aswell.
What I agree with is him being old and not seeing himself able to play 50games next season in the top level. He is within his rights to think that. And with how things were last season, If I were in his place, I would also think I would be playing a lot of games, seeing my teammates' injury history.
What I don't agree is, how can we as a Football club have a clause that let him leave for free? (if the said reason is true)

His fitness level also regressed in 2025. He had that run of like 17 games at the end of 2024 where he played almost every single minute. In 2025 he didn't play more than 3 games in a row.
He did very well last season and it probably took a lot of effort from his side to keep that level, now he feels it's not worth it when there's a lot of money offered from Saudi to relax.

Because his contract ended 2025 and he wanted to cash in in his last years.

It will be interesting to see how Flick sees Eric and Kounde when they are both playing together. Who will be the RB?
Every transfer where we don't have to pay future salaries is a success for an amateur like Deco.
Kounde must be considered fully transitioned to RB. As few changes as possible to gala XI is preferred, which means Kounde should always be RB if he's on the pitch, unless there's a huge crisis at CB where Eric is also unavailable.
