What Flickball does to a defender @jamrock @Messigician @Iniesta Ultra 😭 😭

Iñigo Martínez said he used to struggle to sleep after matches because of the stress of holding the defensive line. And you? Gerard Martin: “Honestly, I also find it really hard to sleep after our games. With the level of focus & stress involved it takes hours before I can finally switch off.”

is that the reason why he wanted to leave Barca? 🤣

I get it, but it’s their job and they make good money. Most people have stressful jobs and earn only a fraction of what these players make. At least they can easily afford a therapist.

Speaking about the campaign’s defining moments, Flick pointed to the clash against Celta Vigo as a turning point.

He highlighted how the squad fought through difficult periods. He recalled that “in the second half, we were a great team, with a great performance.

“Perhaps at the moment we lack the confidence that we normally should have and need. But now some players are coming back, and that will help us a lot.

We have a fantastic team, and if we play at a high level like we did in Vigo, everything will be fine.

“We now have nine games in four weeks before the break. We are going to focus on these four weeks, in which we are going to fight to win every game.”

“It’s a great honour to receive this award, but it also shows that it’s not just for me, it’s for the team.

Both the players and the coaching staff did a fantastic job last season, and that’s why we won this trophy.”

When analysing the competitive nature of La Liga, Flick offered a thoughtful comparison based on his experience in Germany.

He emphasised that each league carries its own strengths.“I don’t want to compare La Liga with the Bundesliga, but I will say what I have seen here, and I like it.

“In Spain, each team has its own identity and wants to play football; they like to play football.

“And I like that because it’s not easy to prepare for a game against the next team, as each one has a different identity,” he concluded.

Was posted by Khaled in the Christensen thread, but thought it would be good to have here too:

In Lewandowski's biography, the author recounts that Andreas Christensen told Hansi Flick he didn't want to play against Inter Milan. With Barça holding a late lead against Inter and preparing for a barrage of crosses, Hansi Flick decided to bring on Christensen to add height in defense and defend vs. Inter's tall players (like Acerbi). But when the assistant told Christensen to get ready, the defender unexpectedly replied that he had minor discomfort in the back... Flick doubted it was a real injury, but with the match in chaos and the clock at 89’, he had no time to check. Forced to improvise, Flick turned to Lewandowski —who had just returned from injury— because his height could help defend the final attacks. The decision backfired: Inter equalised, pushed the match to extra time, and ultimately eliminated Barça, with Lewandowski struggling physically and Christensen never entering the pitch.

The point is not that you have to feel sorry for the players. It's that this level of stress is abnormal and bound to impact how the team performs in a negative way.

Mental stress is also stored in the body, affecting movement, increasing the risk of injury.

They are modern day gladiators, without 0% risk in comparison, who got more riches from their job than Julius Cezar got by being a fucking emperor of World, while having 1000x stressful job. If they can't take the heat, then should get out of the kitchen and be replaced. Can afford lifetime of idleness in rural county herding sheep, if want.
