Ok if I am correct, you are taking both LaLiga and UCL stats combined?View attachment 13319
In my defense, I was bored. GA, xGA, SoTA, and the bars represent GA/PSxGA calculated across all goalkeepers who played during the season.
Additionally, xG data on FBref is only available from 2017 onwards.
Honestly, a while back I wrote a small script and wanted to put it to use. That's the main reason behind the graphsOk if I am correct, you are taking both LaLiga and UCL stats combined?
So, according to this, and also considering LaLiga stats I analyzed, it's somewhat the same picture.
Firstly, our GKs seldom ever outperform. Even when they do, it's not by that much. And we sometimes even outperform our xGA. LOL. That alone should have made the board look for better GKs and the Goalkeeping coach.
The issue is with xGA, expected goals data isn't available for the Supercopa (which I knew) nor for the Copa matches (which I didn't know). To keep things comparable, I calculated sums on subsets where both stats were available. I initially thought I was just missing Supercopa matches, but it turns out I'm also missing Copa matches.Secondly, I think the total SoTA data you have might be a bit faulty. Its either SoTA for all competition, but then GA is only LaLiga + UCL. We had 59 SoTA in UCL, 4.21 SoTA per game.
Its along the lines of what we usually have in UCL, 2020 & 2018 were better with 3.7 & 3.5 respectively, while 2019 & 2022 were quite a bit worse with 5.3 & 5 respectively.
I agreed with you from the start, just wanted to add xGA data to corroborate the assumptions.Anywho, we both are at the same conclusion by the looks of it.
Our defensive structure seems to be generating almost the same SoTA as before, while also increasing our Goalscoring ability and control over the match.
IMO we should look for Taller and faster defenders. This with Garcia on goal, should vastly mitigate a lot of our problems.
Damn. Genius-level stuff.Honestly, a while back I wrote a small script and wanted to put it to use. That's the main reason behind the graphs![]()
Thanks for that, though. Looks all professional and all. LOLI agreed with you from the start, just wanted to add xGA data to corroborate the assumptions.
I've always maintained that the biggest improvements could be made on CB and GK positions and the data seems to support that. With a new GK in the bag, Christensen on his way out, we might be in luck.
Flick is alright but he’s no special one
These were Mourinho’s scouting reports ahead of the 2006 Champions League clash between Chelsea and Barcelona🇵🇹🧠:
➤Ronaldinho: Dangerous between the lines. Very poor defensive work—exploit it. Constant cheater, falls easily.
➤Lionel Messi: Quality and speed, but very left-footed. Same behavior as Ronaldinho between the lines. Drives the team forward with ball control. Excellent in 1v1s. Foul him as early as possible.
➤Andrés Iniesta: Always comes off the bench. Very dynamic. Plays in many positions. Quick both in movement and execution. A tricky player.
➤Carles Puyol: Aggressive, but very emotional. Loses his cool when provoked. Ideal target for pressing. Poor positional awareness—follows attackers up to midfield. Weak defensive leadership, attempts offside traps at the wrong times.
➤Samuel Eto’o: Explosive and aggressive, with or without the ball. Presses hard and maintains intensity throughout the game. Shoots from anywhere without needing setup. Very strong defensively.
And Mourinho's record against Barça wasn't bad at all:
▪️Chelsea eliminated Barcelona on a 5–4 aggregate in 04/05 (Round of 16).
▪️Barcelona eliminated a 10-man Chelsea on a 3–2 aggregate in 05/06 (Round of 16).
▪️Chelsea beat Barcelona 1–0 and drew 2–2 in the 06/07 group stage.
You missed one.
Tito Villanova: master tactician. Peps brain. But if he can't see he can't think. Recommended action: poke him in the eye.
