Can't be arsed to watch the female football but to each their own. There are far worse sports to waste time on so who am I to judge.
Am curious how this section of the club operates, even at this level of having a top top female side. Are they making the club money via prizes, TV rights, sponsors or are they subsidized by mens section and basically bleeding out resources.
Edit: just checked. It seems Barca female team were subsidized by mens section up until last year and looks to make profit in this season too.
Good news.
Only section of the club that is self-sustainable. Been that for the last 4-5 years AFAIK. Obviously costs have increased in time but even more so have incomes.
But as I've said before it's questionable how long we can keep this up while playing in an uncompetitive league. Madrid is improving so at least that should keep us awake but other Liga F teams are way behind. Atleti who were our main rivals 5-6 years ago have not improved (they've probably even stagnated) since then.
Kind of happened already with handball team that has zero competition domestically since Ciudad Real dissolved 15 years ago. And in the past decade we struggled in Europe (only won one CL) against likes of Kiel and Flensburg who are playing in a strong Bundesliga. Alhough tbf we were kind of bottlers too at Final Fours. Luckily things have turned around over last few years and hopefully will stay so but I do believe it's hard to keep a competitive team longterm if you don't play strong games every week.
Back to football we have Lyon who wants to go back to the top where they still think they belong and Michele Kang will surely do everything (she already hired Zubi Jr. as a SD a year ago) for that to happen and then ofc PSG will continue to invest as well.
But main problem is ofc WSL that is becoming the next EPL where most top players will eventually want to play. Like it or not they know how to "sell the product" much better than idiots like Tebas and Rubiales.
Arsenal's revenues last season were on almost the same level as FCB Femeni (around 18m). Their matchday revenues have increased for 64% as they played eight WSL games at the Emirates and been successful at that - 56k attendance against Tottenham and 40k+ vs United, City and Chelsea. Commercial revenues also improved for almost 50%.
So there is a future potential for FCB Femeni once we are back at the Camp Nou but besides El Clasico and maybe Atleti game I doubt there would be much interest for league games against let's say Sevilla, Sociedad or even Espanyol. There is just not that much rivalry established between those teams in women's football because Barca has been so superior to them over the years.
A lot of Liga F teams are pretty much still (semi) amateur on many levels (trainings, staff,...). 2-3 years ago when we played against Rayo (IIRC) they didn't even have a team doctor present at the game so Barca's doctors had to take care of one of their players when she suffered a head injury. And apparently that wasn't the only time they were without doctors or physios.
