Clubs do cash grab friendly tournaments in Asia and the US anyway. So yeah, it's bad that we didn't get the purse for this one.

The money is Huge.
But if we cant play B-team and do 10 subs each match its not worth the no rest.
Every other seson we have either World Cup or Euros. So lets not make it even more diffcult for the players.

Euro teams are playing so far in pre-season mode.

Logical move for 2029 edition would be to move the tournament into the pre-season window before seasons start so clubs have had the Summer to rest their players and Euro clubs can (a) play the initial games against the shitters as part of their pre-seasons and then be fully match fit for the finals portion and then lead into the national leagues.

I mean they won't because they will probably want to do the tournament in America again for the money, but logically, this is a better way.

I read FIFA want to repeat it in US to build soccer, err football there. While Spain/MarocChop expected it to be there because of the World Cup.

Saudi probably get a Winter edition before their World Cup I guess.

I think the first one is in the USA that it won't have a bigger backlash, the next ones will be in Saudi, they finance the whole competition, it makes sense that they host it too. I don't care really, hope we never qualify.

As I said can see both sides of the argument. But I ultimately voted no, for two reasons:

From a Eurocentric POV, it's a pointless tournament (though as I said that could change with the benefit of hindsight);

Player welfare. I really feel for players having to play this much football. Yes I know a lot of them are pricks, some will mind more than others, and most of them are overpaid anyway. But they're still human beings not robots, and they must be shattered mentally and physically. They'll likely pay the price for this overload with aches, pains and injuries after their careers. I suppose the other side of things though is that medicine, recovery and stuff like that (and PEDS lol) is better than ever to combat the workload.

But overall my main reason for voting no is player welfare as well as more football diluting the quality and anticipation. Less is more.

I have to admit, it has been better than I thought it would be. Plenty of the smaller teams have really given it a go. I thought today's games would be quite dominant for the European teams, but Dortmund narrowly beat Sundowns (and only equalised after a gift from the African side's GK) and Red Diamonds are currently beating Inter at HT.

We can talk about the European teams not taking it seriously, but some of the teams from other confederations have been respectable and given a good account of themselves.

It's likely the European teams will take over at some point, but for now they're not having it all their own way.

Hi *insert European club owners name here*

This is Ceferin. So these first round of CWC have been a walk over for the Euro clubs. Nobody is watching, we're winning too easy.

So I've spoke with FIFA and we think the best move forward for round two is to make the South American clubs more competitive, maybe give them a few wins and draws and get more people interested in the rest of the tournament. Remember we are paying you guys alot of money so I hope you understand.

Don't worry, you don't need to lose to the Asian or African clubs, they will be happy enough with a draw or a last minute loss.

Ok that's it for now, don't worry we will guarantee you all the Semi final slots or three at worse, but we got to give a bit of hope and spice up those quarters.

Enjoy the week and have a good weekend.

Regards,
The Cef

Of course, money are guaranteed. It's just like a preseason with more money and exposure. I don't see the benefit in not playing this but playing some friendly games in Japan.

If money at this CWC event wouldn't be serious, yes, I could understand.
