Nah... you are not a top club when even a bit of success triggers your "sell while it's hot" instinct. Their own players treat them as a stepping stone to other clubs.

It's a shame because many clubs in Bundesliga could be big, if only they had ambition. But what's the point, stadiums are full anyway, football is consumed, might as well make a buck since fans enjoy the game so much that any competitive drive to win has been replaced with the satisfaction of simply playing and being part of it.

This is so strange. Biggest economy in Europe producing only one top 10 European club. Especially puzzling about Dortmund. They even have a bigger stadium than Bayern, and constantly among the highest attendences in Europe. How can they tolerate no championship in 12 years?

Germany is perfectly sat up to be the # 1 or 2 league in the world, from an organizational prospective

Great stadiums
Fans that love the game and always come out, so the product looks good on TV

Organized league
Attacking football

But every club in the country sees bayern as representing the entire nation it seems, so they call just capitulate to them constantly.

That's what I mean - they were big clubs and are now feeders for Bayern. Bayern always ruled that league but nowhere near as pronounced as now.

As you say, it isn't even like it's a smaller league ruined post Bosman. It's a big country with the largest economy in Europe. They can support more than one elite team.
