Personally I don't rate Arnaiz. Best case scenario he will be an impact sub. I rate Alena though. That's not because his achievement right now. It's just really hard to find a midfielder who's capable of controlling and passing balls in tight spaces right now. Nearly every "established star midfielder" is playing like Rakitic or weaker versions of KDB.

What if our coaches and staff decided that Alena is the next Rafinha/JDS and similar, and not the next Thiago and this is why they have given up on him lately?
The same as with Samper. He was supposed to be the next big thing, but he just never reached needed levels. NOT because we didn't play him but just because he never developed into a player whom we expected.

I urge you to judge players on an individual basis. Its much better than bringing up Halilovic all the time. Lumping all players younger than 25 together makes no sense. They are individuals just like players older than 25. Also judge forumers on an individual basis. Do you think I believe Alena is the new Iniesta? I am saying the opposite. Why should we believe he is the new Thiago or Iniesta exactly?

He is a kind of a player whom this forum would hype if he played in a Bteam.
That guy will never play in any club.

Kovacic on the other hand, plays for RM.

You have to distinguish players who haven't achieved more or less anything and who are just hyped, either from Barcaforum, Croatian fans, managers who are trying to sell them etc and players who are actually good players and who have done a lot in their careers.

Your reasoning regarding Kovacic makes no sense... I could easily counter your argument by saying Rafinha plays for Barcelona. Does that make him a world class player?

As much as I like shitting on Rakitic, benching him for a youngster would be fucking stupid. This isn't Football Manager or FIFA where players develop lineally and fulfill their potential. Most prospects end up flopping and throwing them straight in as a starter would only destroy them or stall their development unless they're a special, once in a lifetime type talent.

Some people need to get real, while Rakitic does have his flaws and I would like to see him upgraded on, not many youngsters will ever reach his talent level and many will be fortunate to get remotely close to him. This isn't a video game, you can't swap established players for some prospect and expect the team not to regress. That's not how things work in the real world.

Regarding our young players, I don’t rate Arnaiz but I really think we must do everything we can to develop Alena. By developing him I don’t thing benching Rakitic or Iniesta so he can play, by developing I mean introducing him gradually in our team. My opinion is that this year experience with Barca B squad will do him good. When Modric was his age he played for Zrinski and Inter Zapresic FFS so don’t have unrealistic expectations from Alena. I will be more than happy if he develops in Barca startling material during next three years!

Not referring to you at all. I've seen this sort of sentiment on other forums and among friends and I thought I'd just address it generally. I haven't read many of the posts in this thread regarding the recent Rakitic discussion.

Rakitić doesn't vanish often. He might not play what you or I would like to see but he certainly does what a coach wants from him. Otherwise, he wouldn't deserve to start more or less every game.
