Ballon d'Or 2025

Like the Oscars, it means nothing. For the past decade it was somewhat important for the media to determine who has more bragging rights between Messi and Cristiano but now who cares. They'll probably give it to Démbéle who scored more than 8 league goals and had his first ever great season for the first time in his life at the age of 28. Well done but no one will remember who he was in 10 years from now, whether he wins or not. Everyone who understands a bit about football knows PSG mainly won thanks to Lucho.

It's the equivalent of Shawshank Redemption, Taxi Driver, Dr. Strangelove, Psycho, Fight Club having a total of 0 Oscars while garbage like Everything Everywhere All at Once has 7.

It would be better to give it out every 4 years or so to the most outstanding player of the past 4 years, similar to the Fields Medal in mathematics. Just to filter out 1 season anomalies and seasons where no one really stood out. But football is a business and at all times needs its star faces on adverts and Ea Sports covers, so here we are.

I actually like EEAAO lol, but yeah I agree with the general sentiment. It's a politically and marketing charged award and individual awards in football don't make much sense to me - never have.

Some great films there by the way - most well-known but Strangelove is one that the younger generations might not be aware of but is a great Cold War parody. I know he was very intense, but Kubrick was a genius.

The Palme d'Or is much better than the best film oscar, imo.

Back to 2025 edition, right now Dembele has advantage over Yamal though let's see if next friday thing can change or not.

However players and coaches alike seem to praise Yamal the most. I guess Yamal has edge when it comes to Fifa Player of The Year (Fifa the best now). No CWC maybe a disadvantage though.

Who cares? Since Messi retired from European football, there’s no clear standout anymore. I’m fine with whoever wins it, even if it’s not a Barca player. Hopefully, we won’t see the drama and whining from our fans, like the pathetic Real Madrid fans last year.

Won Liga 1999 and Copa America 1999 as MVP

Watch

La Liga is fine, but UTD won the treble.
Can't be compared

Also, I will write it again: people stop counting Copa America as an important trophy.
Won by either Brazil or Argentina 95% of the times, and should not be a factor in Ballon D Or votes.
Especially those years, when you had Copa America every 2 years
