The DM should be by far the best off the ball defensive player in the team. De Jong will be box to box, more defensive oriented also. Pedri is the CM-AM.
This means both Fermin and Olmo should be on the market. Casado also. Everyone almost. And the DM should be a hit. Can't afford to fuck it up.

Xavi would be the best midfielder by a country mile in today's game and wouldn't be remotely close to anyone else either.

You think Pedri will magically get quick feet and last 90 mins easily as he gets older? Time to face the facts. He will always be slower than other top CMs. Time to tackle this issue instead of hoping Pedri becomes something he will likely never be. He can play a nice pass, can have a superb touch, a nice dribble, but CM work is mostly about moving quickly all the time.

This is one thing people are missing, Xavi was a pure athlete, in terms of physical attributes Pedri is very far from him and that limits what he can show with the ball even if his technique is near as good.
22 years old Xavi isn't close to 28 years old Xavi. Of course if young Xavi played in today football, he would be fantastic but still not at his 28 years old level.

It's not about that. Some things can be changed with experience. Some can't. Pace, stamina, and rhythm are not one of those things that get better in time.
It is not a matter of experience, but a matter of physical attributes. Those will not get better. We need to find a way to make Pedri run less. Limit his ball carrying. He runs with the ball too much. And in a double pivot his defensive duties are extensive. He simply does not have the engine for this.

Bro stop including Xavi to these useless discussions. There will never be another Xavi Hernandez and the only midfielder better than Xavi Hernandez is Zinedine Zidane. The only reason Barcelona declined during/after Pep was the decline of Xavi Hernandez. Xavi was the system and once he declined, Barcelona was never the same…
