8 - Pedri

PSG team from last year have 5 players in the top 10.
It is unfair, but treble winner with no NT tournament, so a bit expected sadly.
Lamine, Raphinha, Salah & Mbappe were better last season if we are being fair (at least from the perspective where attackers will always be more appreciated).

Palmer is the one I truly don't get. He even had a long dry spell iirc.

Have to give something to EPL. 1 in top 10 is too low. Probbaly for that CWC tournament where he played well in the final.

Palmer ahead of Pedri is a joke though, agree about that.

But it is very simple. If you want to win Ballon d'Or you can't fuck up vs Inter like we did. Consider this award a PR extension of winning CL + league title, especially in a non WC or Euro year.

PSG won a CL final with 5-0. Can't look past that as much as we are Barca fans.

Turning the award into ' Best Player from the team that won last season's Champions League ' is what is ruining the award. They need to revert to the old format where it was just about who were the best players on the pitch, regardless if they played for Real Madrid or Real Zaragoza.

They changed it because of Leo, who they were smart enough to realise would be the best player in the world, even in his lesser seasons. But they don't need to do that now, unless Lamine starts world domination, which is not entirely out of the question.

For example, for me, Joan Garcia was amongst the Top 50 players in the world last season for basically keeping Espanyol up on his own. But he won't even be recognised as the best GK in the world, because he played for a small club.

That's not what the essence of the Ballon Dor is, or certainly used to be, about.

To be fair there is no much different between 11th or 5th in Ballon Dor ranking. You can see very few votes in these ranks.

Top 3 is what matters.
@Maradona37 Pedri being 11th in the ranking is a disgrace, which is why he needs to have the big game performance in WC/CL KO match to get that respect. He has the talent to showcase this.
Agree. Pedri is already world best midfielder but to win these awards, he must have his moments in UCL and international tournaments.

Listening to the Spanish football podcast with sid lowe, they were stuck by the same thing I brought up.

How English fans are going crazy over pedri, after what was basically an average pedri game lol.

But not for nothing, people on here also got caught up, the reaction were was as if he had a worldie, when it was just a good game.
