6 - Gavi

I'm 100% sure there is a part of flick that wants to play pedri gavi double pivot, just to get his best players on the pitch.

But tactics and balance is more important
He needs to show the same performance in big games first. This season counts for him. He's completely fit and does the whole pre-season.

He's done it before, will do it again.

Did well it a lot of games last season as well, but the big games were too high intensity after his injury, flick did the right thing not playing him or subbing him in late.

But either way, I wouldn't want to see the gavi pedri double pivot in a big game, I understand why flick doesn't play it, even if he wants to.

He'll need another 6 months for his ACL injury, it's not a full pre season and you're good to go type of injury.

Yeah, both shine as an offensive 6, more like an 8, while Frenkie happily takes over the defense part of the double 6. Although his biggest strength at Ajax was also to carry the ball forward. Flick needs a defensive 6 in his system.

Frenkie isn't good defensively. His best attribute is to hold the ball and run with it.

He isnt aggressive enough to be good defensively and he can't head the ball.

Casado is better for example.

Yes, Frenkie's strengths are with the ball, not against it. Flick values his overview and build-up as a defensive 6, while Pedri is more the link between midfield and attackers.

Flick after the match

"He can play in both positions, 6 or 8, we saw him at the end of last season and he was at a very good level."

The coach ended his praise for the Andalusian with a statement in which he made clear his admiration for the young man:

"What I have saw from Gavi is exactly what I want to see, pushing the team, as captain."

Good that he was what I saw towards the end of last season, he played a lot of good games, the kind of games his haters always says he doesn't or can't play, but haters gonna hate.

Gavi is ready to explode but I think he is coming for Olmo's spot. He is better as a presser from the front than he is recovering balls from the back. Pedri has proven to be amazing at recovery and less good up front.

Offensively Flick may go more towards hybrid 8s than a straight 10 like Olmo/Fermin.

Will be interesting to see

If Gavi is going to become the third starting midfielder he needs to provide goals and assists, or at least a threat up front.

A pure enforcer and press machine isn't the right type to complete Frenkie and Pedri because Frenkie is completely useless in final third and Pedri conducts from deep. Gavi needs to provide something different to the two on the ball, not just running intensely without it.

Gavi playing like gavi includes being a mini gattuso, fans need to understand that.

He said it in his interview last year, i can play ball & I'll never change that part of my game.

Interview with sport, he's taken dro under his wing, so dro at some point his 100% making it to first team football.

PS he will never add goals to his game to the extent of olmo, if he plays a similar amount of games, he'll get pedri numbers.

I can understand him replacing olmo in games we need more control, he's a better Midfielder than olmo, but generally he won't replace olmo in the XI, flick has said it multiple times now he's a 6 or 8.

Pedri is his competition, the only duel a fit gavi won't win in our current Midfield
