6 - Gavi

I've said it before but there is something uniquely reckless about the way he conducts his body on a football pitch. Not that he goes hard into challenges, but the way he sort of lurches around like a drunk man without really seeming in control of his footing. It's like his footing is an afterthought, his legs sort of scurrying to catch up to the rest of the body instead of moving in step with it. Proper integration between foot, ankle, knee, hip, that's how you move healthily. Something with Gavi's movement has always just been off.

I lost hope in Gavi long ago.. a full fit Gavi that is.. he adds little to nothing to the team as a starter or as a sub and it's been the case for years now. He no longer the prospect

He became 21 on August 5.

He picked up his ACL injury on November 19, 2023.

So he was just 19.

He made his debut on August 29th, 2021, at age 17.

His first full season, by all accounts, he was fantastic for his age and generally played well, becoming a regular starter for Spain at 18+.

Second season starter for the team's first league title in years.

Those are all literal facts.

It's also a fact that just a summer ago, most here were doubting Pedri, even at the Euros, when he was picking up injuries many shitted on him instead of supporting him.

I'm reading through a few comments on his talent and development, and shaking my head like these people never seem to learn.

It seems like he's been here a long time; he's literally just played two full seasons of first-team football before picking up his injury.

Let's see how he recovers, because if you know ball, you know talent is never the issue with him.

Gavi looked very good for his age when first broke through under Koeman then it tailed off a bit as it looked like he got too caught up in the hard man act.

Got worse under Xavi and in that league title season Xavi found a 4th midfield role that got him in the team where he pressed a lot but for such an advanced midfielder in that set up showed very little quality on the ball.

That title win he was probably the 10/11th best player.. not even close to likes of Pedri when he was fit or FDJ. Nowhere near one of more important players.

Looked like this summer he had matured a bit but the reality is if he never gets to being a top midfielder folk will massively embelish how good he was before his knee injuries.

Was bang average but ran a lot in Xavis title season, was insignificant in Flicks but looked as if would be a top talent when first broke through.

He is 21 and never started a game in a European tie Barca have won or started in a Cup Final etc.

That's unfortunate.

This injury seems to have sort of gotten more and more serious in the background without much attention. Just trying to follow the timeline - so he gets injured end of August and is said to miss a game and that becomes two games and then suddenly he needs surgery and reports say he might miss 8 weeks and now all of a sudden 5 months? Escalation...

He has the heart of a lion, and the mind of a warrior, and that's why he will be back, against all the odds.

Only fools give up on Don Gavi.
He'll be back for sure, just on what level is the question. After 2 heavy injuries and surgeries in the same knee, he could be forced to change his aggressive playstyle, which made him stand out in the first place.
