Was Gordon offside initially and this is why he had the upper hand on Kounde by some chance? Or simply got there faster on an equal race to the cross?

No he just beat Kounde to the ball and got on front of him.

It isnt all easy for Kounde either though as caught trying to watch the offside and also track man.

Thats the flaw though if offside trap beat the defenders can be a step off it and its a good chance from ball wide.
