23 - Jules Kounde

We didn't really overpay for him, we are just not used to pay market value for defenders.

He is the only defender we paid anything significant for to sign, since Laporta's comeback. 5 summers and only one defender we paid more than 5M for.

He is only the 4th defender we paid more than 25M for in our history (Alves, Semedo and Lenglet all cost around 35M)

La Masia, free agents and Barca B signings were our way to reinforce defense under Laporta, and even during the decade before it we barely made significant investments.

Just admit, you agree with me more than you let on when I said last year going forward next step for Barca would be upgrading on Kounde for RB(and getting rid of araujo and replacing ter stegen which they seem to be doing now).

But I would be up for getting rid of araujo and moving him back to CB and then finding proper RB.

But Kounde has seemed to have slimmed down. I am looking forward to see how he will look RB this season.

But naah not in this, kounde is WC at RB, only hakimi better than him now, I just want to see him at CB for my own selfishness.

Kounde is doing fine job but not WC. Way too easily shut down for that. Usually gets closed down and then tries to find a teammate to pass but fails. A lot of times see him shoot against opponent and wins us a throw in. But this already happens before we even crossed midfield. Also didn’t seem that fast last season. Needs to work on final ground pass as well. Crossing is ok.
Turns slowly. Attacking output could be better. Hakimi way ahead there. But we had such an attacking system it was ok for us.

But ideally in future Barca would want an RB that’s a bit better on ball.

Because I believe he'll be a WC CB Too.

If your boy is WC based on 5 months of work, he's world class at RB based on the entire season, I'm kidding lol.

But he's definitely WC at RB, no RB in the world better than him last season not named hakimi. he's been top 5 RB since last 24 months.

As much as he would be a class defender, he's a midget. And with Cuba in his side, we would lack height.
Now if you could find a 1.88m+ RB for us I wont complain.

Till then, I would prefer him as a RB.
