I hope he gets a chance tonight. Eric's flaws in midfield have come to light and we shouldn't play our best defender there. Casado seems to be in horrible form so this boy is probably our best bet until Pedri is back

Physically reminds of Nico G who was dead after 60 minutes for us. He also had a big frame early on but not using it effectively. Bernal is lankier but still needs to learn how to maximize the use of his body since he's bigger than most players on the pitch.

Nowadays Nico is chaining multiple 90s in a row for City so it's far from the hardest thing to improve in football.

Yeah. Nico spent 6 months on the fringes of Conceicao's Porto adapting physically to his demands.

If Bernal pushes himself in the same way here then we got a player.

But Nico was always a more offeneive player naturally. Bernal seems a pivot through and through.

Trust in Flick. He wouldn't play him if he didn't have clear potential and if he doesn't do things well on the field already.

My feed is full of Bernal/Busquets videos. Unbelievable. Simply because Bernal is tall and dribbles similarly like a duck as Busi used to do.

He has some special passing quality. But... for that position he needs to work hard and improve the areas that he lacks in. Passing is very intelligent. We do not have a team to make all other great sides park the bus vs us. So our players who play in defensive positions have to get very good at traditional defending tools also.

His progression is gonna be interesting, but I can see why he was rated much higher than Casado at youth levels.

He is a good shooter of the ball from mid distance, his toolkit is versatile, I'd say currently passing is one of his weaker areas. Better dribbler/shielder of the ball than passer. Good shooter and conductor of the ball - he'll show both.

As for defending, that part will improve as he improves his physical preparedness/condition after injury and adds to his strength, speed, agility, etc.

I have VERY big doubts about his defending skills, he looks lethargic and doesn't read the game defensively very well. We might have to loan him out and try somebody else.

Thing to consider is we don't really play with a DM and those who do play as central midfielders are more mobile.
