Poor game.

About only one that looked like could take the ball under pressure at times but too many sloppy moments also.

Others like Kounde/Araujo/Fermin/Lewa/Ferran couldnt even have the decent moments

Utter dross.

Not our biggest problem but he is a bit of a nothing player. Not really a defensive mid, not really much of a creator. Only excells at keeping the ball and playing it safely sideways.

Reminds me of Arthur who was like a crippled version of Xavi. Excellent at keeping the ball under pressure, twisting and turning, up until that point looked like Xavi. But then nothing but a sideway pass to the fullbacks followed.

His fan boys will get there panties in a twist for this, but a conversation around his performances in big European games needs to be had.

He's been here for however many years now, and been involved in all our European loses & embarrassment and one thing is common in all of them is our midfield getting completely overran and his fans blame everyone for it, but him.

Its busquets, gundogan, Garcia, Pedri, Gavi, olmo's fault. never the 85m euros player who is the highest paid player in our midfield and who should be in his prime.

But they will tell you, oh he played well vs Napoli and had a good game vs inter, that we concede 7 against with him as the "DM". (He did play well against inter). As if that's some kind of achievement given how long he's been here and involved in basically every disaster night with him never once standing up and being counted.

He's supposedly world class, (he's definitely not) but you can never turn to him in high pressure situations, when you need your midfield to help play you out of high pressure games.

He's not a bad player, but he's just so bland, as vanilla as they come and everyone in midfield constantly gets scapegoated by his vocal fanboys but him

I'm not his fanboy, but I think he's played very well for some time now. I'm not getting my panties in a twist, you're right... to some extent. It was difficult for him yesterday, it was difficult for us. I don't want to blame other players for his fuckups, but obviously we're not gelling as a team and CM's need help - help wasn't really there from Yamal, Tuna, Kounde, Fermin or even Garcia. What do you want to happen, give the ball to Frenkie when he's surrounded by a great Chelsea midfield and pressed by great Chelsea forwards and him pulling a rabbit out of the hat?
Forget about Casado, we need to look at what Bernal can do for us. We need Pedri back and we need Gavi as backup. We need better fullbacks, we need Yamal/Rashy/Raphinha to help the midfield when we're up against a team like Chelsea, Bayern or PSG. We don't play as a team, we just fall apart. We fucking need our AM and even CF to drop down when we build up from the back to help out with some outs for our midfield, nothing of that happened yesterday. Hopefully this is the last season for Ara, for Lewa and we get some new fullbacks - Frenkie can't fucking pull it all by himself...

Pedri could have done something by himself to act as a pressure release Valve, that's what world players do.

But he's also failed when surrounded by those very players you name, he's been here 5-6 years, it's not something new that we got over ran in midfield while he's playing and the blame always gets pushed to someone else by his fan club, or some other excuse, when he's been a constant in almost all of them

Caicedo showed him how to be a proper DM
Well, he did - Caicedo was also 110M and he got some help from his "friends". Frenkie was pretty much alone yesterday, we were disjointed af. Only thing Frenkie needed yesterday was at fucking least one more teammate who knows how to ball', yesterday he was alone and he looked frustrated - no help from anybody to advance and get through the press. Chelsea did good, they knew if they pressed the living shot out of Frenkie with 2-3 players we wouldn't get far - only other danger could come from Yamal who isolated himself on the wing and wasnt' involved most of the match. We needed Yamal to help out, we needed Olmo on, we needed Tuna to stay the fuck away from LW and play somebody who isn't a fucking donkey, we needed an AM who can retain the ball for more than 2 seconds. Chelsea knew what they were doing, they "killed"of both Yamal and Frenkie - rest of our players in the first needed players tha can play ball to set them up, they can't set up themselves. Flick better give Bernal some minutes now, he actually had potential. This season is fucked from a CL perspective, Flick better not start Tuna and I hope we get a fullback or two and of course a mobile CF that can be involved in the play. Also, I would scrap Flick's 4-2-3-1, get back to 4-3-3 - with a player like Oshimenh as #9 and Garcia as DM (+ at least 1 WC fullback) this would play out differently.

He's also on double the salary of Caicedo, but I won't blame him for that, it's not his fault the board decided to hand hefty salaries left and right.

I do much prefer a DM to be someone physically imposing who's main goal is to recover balls and cover ground.
