21 - Frenkie de Jong

He's captain, one of the oldest players in the team and an absolute pillar of the starting XI. Such players easily deserve 9-10m net in an elite club. Laporta reduced the wage bill to a bit over 50% of the total ordinary income, which is a top level among the elite clubs, meaning Barca can easily afford this salary.
Also this is his last contract in his prime, for the next one he'll already be 31-32 declining. So obviously he wouldn't accept a much lower salary.

Or the other way around, try to find a player like Frenkie, that costs the club 20m/y in total (fee + salary).

Let's hope he won't suffer from the new-contract-syndrome and significantly drop his level.

He wasn't all that since it's been agreed. As a club with biggest debt I would have liked captains to set an example and agree to lower wages if they so love the club but it is what it is.
Most of their "love" for the club correlates with salaries, sadly.

You "forgot" bonuses.

I'm talking about the contract that we will have to give him if we'll sign him permanently. It will at least be very close to the figures of the FDJ contract.

It's offtopic, glad for Frenkie's renewal. It's not too long, he shouldn't decline until 2029.
