21 - Frenkie de Jong

He is obviously milking it. Hence the delay

Frenkie got himself in a great position. Near the end of his contract, playing the football of his life, he holds all the cards. The next contract is going to be huge, the Bartomeu contract will seem like a good deal. Either that or he leaves and gets a huge bonus and salary, win win for him. Just what Laporta and Deco said it won't happen a couple of months ago.

Laporta has no credibility with the constant lies.

He will get a nice signing on fee and wage bump. For us will be OK as with amortization his cap space will likely reduce anyways.

He will probably only get a bigger wage offer from three places anyways. PSG, Saudi obviously and Madrid.

We can rule two of those out, so it depends on how much he fancies Paris.

EPL don't pay as much as us, Madrid or PSG. But of course Man City could give him a timeshare in Abu Dhabi.

Ok here's the question. Pedri-Frenkie is the best double pivot in the world.

Question is, a la carte without budget, who would you pair them with at 10 to have the best trio?

PSG probably have a better spread, purely because their fullbacks are much better in pace and possession.
Fermin actually. Wirtz would be filthy. Musiala too soft but could fit in good. That madrid argentine looks like would fit with them good. But hopefully fermin recovers and finds his mojo so we dont have to look and spend stupid money

The way Fermin and Olmo play under Flick the AM/10 role is an attacking player that creates/crashes box for chances.

Best out there for that would be Alvarez currently would say and could be option at CF also although for me Barca need more height/power there in a team that already lacks it.

Could sell both of Fermin and Olmo and get him potentially if 1to1 and hope by end of season Dro has bulked up or Toni can step up.

Posters with "ball knowledge" wanted him gone and cried constantly about his deferred contract. Imagine that.

He has changed his attitude for this season. Whatever it is, becoming daddy x2 or contract season, he looks like a new player. Couple seasons ago, not a winner mentality. Now he is starting to build one.

I guess leaders are made not born. He seems to be on a verge of actually becoming one, as long as he continues this path.

You're welcome
I can promise you that if Flick was his coach from the get go there would be no mention of “becoming one”.

Frenkie throughout his career at Barca has been mostly the same player when it comes to class. Always been one of players where talent was obvious. Team around him is playing better now and he logically benefits from it as well.
Too much blame put on him before when things weren’t going well but likely due to price tag. Expectations were high.

Then there is his period of absence due to a heavy injury and having to recover.

The idea of him all of a sudden being reborn is overplayed and used as cope.

But to be fair I have been guilty of it as well. Countless of players that have suffered heavily from tactics, you write them off and then look like new player due to getting to play more to their strengths.

You guys forget he spend most of his Barca career babysitting Busi who couldn't move at that point. Now he's more mature, has a better partner in midfield and Flick's style probably suits him more.

I think it's also because of the system is suiting his play.
Guy is not your Pivot player, nor he is a CM like Pedri. He is box to box player, best suited in a double pivot.
He has always have been this.
But because of our fucked up situation with Busi, we tried to shoehorn him. He did well, but it wasn't as spectacular as everyone wanted him to be, and he was bought to be.
Now we have a system that brings out the best of him.

Also this is the main reason, I don't know how we will lineup in the Midfield, when Bernal starts to gain prominence.
