21 - Frenkie de Jong

Truth
There is something to be said for a player feeling part of something bigger than themselves, its the sort of motivation that often leads to wage increases/bonuses but are not driven by this. Like Marcus, maybe his head wasn't really here for a time. I have long been critical of the player and after Dembouz debacle I have no idea what he will do for certain with his renewal but I see a player that is palpably motivated to thrive here. His quality is undeniable and he is a leader on the pitch with his play & grit that I believe underscores the elite mentality of this group

Whether that translates to signing a better contract to continue here or leave, irrelevant at this point - this season we'll see a stellar Frenkie, if he stays healthy

I don't believe it. He wouldn't have to take less money I think. If he takes it, then he truly likes it here and takes a discount. He could easily cash in next summer. There are many top teams who could use him. They would throw kitchen sink at him, houses, cars and salary to sign him.

I hope it's true, but quite often the first reports are very positive like this and then the reality is worse. :D

ffpolo is a good source in most cases. Also Frenkie and his wife love their life in Barcelona, they recently got a second child. Pretty sure a few million more won't be enough for him to move and how big the reduction actually is, we'll need to wait and see. It won't be big, as he reclaimed his spot and has a major role in Flick's system.

True true in a sense why change the location if things are good? You can always cash in later with Saudis or who ever is loaded in that moment. :D Not that he is hurting for money after his Barto contract.

Of course Frenkie agreed to play for free, just for the love of this club. Just as he reduced his salary when he came from Ajax and just as he waved the deferral payments. All of our players do this, that's why we have the smallest salary mass in football. Source: Laporta Sport and MD

J𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐈𝐍: The club has reached an agreement with Frenkie's agent regarding the player's renewal. The improved offer consists of a renewal for 3 seasons, with a salary reduction compared to his current salary. Frenkie considers the offer suitable and WANTS to continue. [@ffpolo]
Sounds great but we all know that's not how it works in football. A favour from the player usually comes with a favour from the club.

I'm sure there's something baked extra into that renewal that benefits Frenkie.
