I don't feel sorry for him. He is living the dream, has improved alot relative to his original level and will now have a proper career as a top league fullback. With and without Barca.

Not bad for a backup from Andorra CF which Pique recommended the move of when they signed Alex Valle on loan.

Plus, I think the Spanish press and Stadia fans has been very kind to him.

Look at the way they used to treat by comparison players like Reizeger and Simao Sabrosa for example.

Everyone knows that there is a meal to be had if you just go at him often. If you have a top winger, you can just do damage in a pretty simple way. Barcola started on PSG's left wing, and didn't do much vs Kounde in the first half hour or so. In min 25-28 he switched sides to get a taste of Martin and he never left.

Valle isn't doing that great with Como this season, and Fort has only one start this year. The later has always been worse than Martin whenever he played last year.

Maybe Torrents or Oduru could provide a better alternative, but so far it is clear we needed an outside signing.

That's why I don't criticise him. He's playing to his abilities (which can't be said about all players in current team) but those are just not good enough. It's not his fault he has to start against likes of PSG.

With the options we have, if Rasford does well, it might be better if we use Raphinha at LB in a Mendes like role. And I'm only half kidding.

We should ask how either of them would do if they would get Martin's minutes (both last and this season) playing alongside better team mates? I think they would play better than Gerard simply because they have more talent and are also better used to Barca's system (though Bumsiball doesn't have much to do with the way Barca should play).
