10 - Lamine Yamal

Ironically he was more mature at 16.

Now he tries unnecessary dribbles, wants to take penalties and freekicks (thankfully off those.. for now) and greed for scoring has crept into his game over the team.

His magic moments now are a glimpse of 16-17 year old Lamine.

Trash game. Everyone gets so giddy he makes some stuff happen, and plays some great passes occasionally, and then all the situations he fucks up in are washed away. He's wasting an absurd number of attacks.

He's a very talented, but stupid and arrogant kid. A long way to go for him I think if he wants to be the best in the world some day.

Serious question from me.

Yes he fucks up a few situations, but what do you want him to do? Play with the maturity and understanding of a 25 year old? Cut off his balls and have him play scared and conservative?

Maybe, just maybe the problem is that we've put way too much on his plate and that he literally doesn't have any attacking partner or FB worth combining with or playing those passes to? Apart from a fully fit Raphinha-

What needs to happen is a serious talk between Flick and him. I understand him trying to beat players, and I don't want this to go away just because he is losing more balls than others. But a considerable part of his game is self-indulgent. And it is not being addressed.

The main purpose of him out there is not to have fun and look cool doing tricks and flicks. But to help his team win. He thinks like a kid. He needs to grow up, or be treated as a kid.

Btw is it some sacrilege now to sub this kid?

Maybe, but for me the issue that leads to that is him thinking he need to do everything by himself because no one else are doing or creating anything.

He literally created the most chances tonight and the best chances outwith the goal.

Also second in team for tackles.

He was awful in first half but wasnt selfish really.

Flick seems to let the penalty taker decide who takes them or players work it out on park.

See it too often but needs to stop.

Raph should not be giving up ball if he is the penalty taker... and Yamal should miss clearly.

He has no role model in this team to look up to. Even the manager is not Ferguson or Pep.

Barca always encouraged this type of star. It's embedded in the club to build around a central figure, and then protect it and pamper it, this is always a big risk at Barcelona. That's what I'm worried about most with Yamal in the end. That he will be pampered and will not actually achieve a great career because of this.

Yamal doesnt behave like a pampered star.

Very much team orientated to date.

Works hard defensively, is not selfish. Clearly loves others scoring as much as himself etc.

The 18-year-old boy is completely unwilling to help the team without the ball.It seems like this is a diagnosis.
True

Also true for your 25 year old boy Ferran who presses like a retired footballer would

But he's a dogshit footballer so you have to praise him for something, right?

Maybe you're right, but I see some things I don't like at all.

If Yamal was talking near on every second week about not winning balon dor folk would trash him for it.

If he kept talking about how much wanted to leave as previous coach didnt rate him or make him prominent enough it would be the same.

Yamal is very much team orientated. Doesnt wield his power. Doesnt moan about personal awards constantly.

Seems universally well liked and top team mate with Spain and Barca.

A good start to get back some authority over him is simply sub him if he's having a very bad game. Maybe try both Rashford, and Raphinha at the same time. This maybe would make him reflect at some things.

They can't even rest him vs segunda sides if he doesn't approve of it.
