Ask yourself how much he will be getting by 23, by 26, by 29, and so on.

Messi wasn't getting that amount (relatively to the time) compared to market, and wage structure of the team, neither at 19, nor at 22, nor at 25.
Still, at some point, he got a 100m gross per season contract that bankrupted the club, together with other ridiculous contracts.

Look at Sterling , he's 30 and 100℅ finished. And he was also playing regular at a very young age

Lamine is playing ridiculous minutes for his age. I think it will take some special medicine treatment for him to push after he hits 30 and even so he will be finito

But if he wins a Balon D'or and achieves CL glory during his contract he's totally worth the money.

It is not 8 million net per year.
It is in 6 years: 8+10+12+14+16+18=78 net=156 gross/6=26/2=13 million net per year
Then there are some bonuses exclusive
Still a great contract for a player with his quality

Yes, it would be stupid to believe in a fixed 16 million net plus bonuses.

Mendes received 14 million euros (!!!) from Laporta 3-4 (!!!) years ago for Fati, who JUST returned from a serious injury. So it was stupid to believe in a fixed 16 million net plus bonuses for Yamal in 2025.

Accordingly, the sources that talk about a salary increase of 2 million net each year starting from the 2026-2027 season seem truthful.

Even if they are true, we're talking about a player who is probably no1 in the world at the minute. 8m net a year fixed is indeed suspiciously low for such a player and the contract is long.

It's basically the same Messi got, but instead of offering him renewals every season, they structured the contract from the start.

I don't really care about the money if he performs. Messi was about 60M gross a season if you spread what he got over 17 years. And that's being generous.

Ask any elite club now if they would be alright with Messi for 60M gross over 17 years and they would snap your hands off.
