Not just one mistake. Second stupid goal he gives rm in less than a year. He cannot keep doing that.

Sigh... so many fans still not getting how extremely important Valdes' footwork is for our style. And no, there are not 10 better goalies out there. Actually I doubt there are any. At least not for the way we play.
His error tonight is inexcusable, but he'll get his shit together. It probably won't change the fact that clueless fans will keep calling for his head though.

The thing is that in 2006 I used to think it was OK because he was a kid and all, and even last season I said, well it's only once in a while so it doesn't matter... But so eraly in the season? I hope he build on this and becomes a wall of badassery from now on!

I don't agree, although Valdes hasn't reached his usual level for about a year now... Before that he consistently outperformed Casillas. And Casillas makes mistakes too, they're just not usually as obvious and there's no mention of themI think he's just not very bright, I mean at that point he had Cesc and Adriano who was free, yet he decides to dribble Di MariaI think he prefers conceding than giving away possession. People here (I know it's in jest most of the time) compare him to Casillas, but lets be honest, comparing VV and Casillas is like comparing Xavi to Scott Parker. VV enjoys the luxury of a team that controls possession better than any team in history, thus having to cope with much less pressure, but look at Casillas. On average Casillas has to make much more saves from close tranges than VV.

I say we let him redeem himself in the second leg, and if not, then Pinto should have a go for a few games just as a reminder that there is competition for the spot.

It's not just 'one major mistake' though. One major mistake is what you say it is, happens once. I mean people should also learn from their mistakes. VV has to do this every so often, he's still a great keeper, but isn't doing his reputation or the team any favors with these flops. 3-1 and 3-2 are very different results in a 2 legged tie.
He was outperforming Casillas when Barca was dominating games with 70-30 possession and RM was in that transformation period and their defense was going through a tumultuous time, with Raul Albiol fucking things up and Ramos being used a RB/CB and doing a very poor job defensively.
