1 - Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Haven’t been following this so perhaps I’m missing something, but remember how Szczęsny played every single game that Stegen couldn’t play? When Stegen was fit again at the end of the season, he was our #1 again (just like that).

Point is, this pressure campaign to get rid of him seems to be coming from the top, not Flick. That’s what we do. Very toxic and never works. Money talks…

Also, isn’t he on some massage contract with major Covid deferrals? 😹😹

Mats was available since Inter away but didn’t travel with the group. Played against Valladolid in an all backup lineup and once again against Villarreal when the league campaign was wrapped up. I wouldn’t say he was our #1 again.

But there’s a possibility I’m just coping and he’ll be back

You never know with this club but Joan's decision gives me hope that he'll be first choice. I don't think he would agree to join us if they didn't tell him that. At least the loan rumors died down for now.

This could still get complicated even if it looks very close. The clause still isn't paid.

He still played as our #1 in those two games after having been out for so long. If Flick thought so poorly of him, he would have given him the cold shoulder as he has with Fati, I reckon.

Isn’t he on a whopper of a contract + Covid era deferrals? We all know how difficult it is getting rid of Barca players once they sign these huge contracts. Xd

Fati was shit in training and that's why he didn't play. Ter Stegen was probably good in training so Flick had to give him some easy games so he wouldn't cry.

Ter Stegen was perfectly fit for Inter second leg. If Flick rates him so much why didn't he play him? It was the most important game of the season literally

I think you're confusing how Pena was ditched in place of Szcesny to what happened with Stegen after he came back.

He wasn't starter right away and played only two games in a league that was pretty much over.

His salary isn't that big by all accounts. But nobody really knows what it is.

This guy won't move. It's the syndrome of the player who is average and will hold on with everything he has for a club that is way out of his league normally. Imposters of this magnitude don't just leave willingly because they know mediocrity awaits them once they do that.

He might stay to compete, but if he isn't the starter then he'll definitely leave in the January window.

OK, we just do that. Keep him on the bench until January. Under no circumstances this guy should start the season ahead of Garcia.

I guess we'll see if he is delusional or a fraud. A delusional player would never accept the humiliation of being a bench warmer. A fraud would just focus on his monthly paycheck.

Well if he wants to risk his National team spot, he is welcome to stay and rot on the bench.

We have already been paying his salary. It's fine. We will survive.

For argument’s sake… if Stegen was good enough in training to warrant a start in two league games after returning from injury, we must assume that Flick saw him as the superior choice. As for the Inter game, perhaps he wasn’t quite ready to play!

Flick is not the type of manager to give players game time so they won’t cry.

That, however, is besides the point. All I’m saying is that this appears to be a top down decision, and rumors about him leaving were leaked by the top (as so often happens when we try to get rid of a player).

Don’t know why you assume Flick doesn’t like him?
