I guess he could realistically oust Raya as starter though.

He seems a kind of Arsenal, good not great, goalkeeper and player.

I don’t know. Maybe? Arsenal fans have said Raya has been excellent though.

That said there must be a reason Arsenal or Arteta have been trying to sign him since last year.

You don’t spend so much money for a backup and Arteta has proven to be ruthless with his changes before binning Ramsdale for Raya.

But I don’t see us keeping all three of Tek, Mats, and Garcia on the books.

So if Tek renews and Mats stays, loan talk doesn’t seem improbable.

Maybe they do the brave stuff and push Mats out. He will look for a way out to play maybe, and get the NT spot for 2026 World Cup. It is the ideal time to offload him.

If we wait a year, he has a disaster of a World Cup, I can see him relaxing in Barcelona and run his contract down. Right now he has an incentive to leave. After World Cup, that incentive goes away.

I kind of like Chevalier more, but I do have serious doubts about his ability to properly claim crosses and dominate aerially, and that’s something I really want our next starter to be able to do.

Especially when we aren’t the tallest team around on average.

My first choice by far would have been Mamardashvili since he is the complete package, apart from his suspectable sweeping I suppose.

You know what? One can dream but I won’t be getting my hopes up before I see it.

And yes, perfect timing to push him out of the club.

Don't see the club having the cold heart to push mats out after a long term injury.

If we sign him, mind tells me he's going to Valencia on loan or staying at Espanyol (I doubt that part).

Liked him more but I haven't seen much and my bias is the Madrid champions league game. I'm old enough to know how these things work now, and used to rate Mickael Landreau after a huge CL games for Nantes against Man Utd back in the day  .

Btw rumours are Chevalier will be heading to Villa. So either they rated him higher than JG, or JG has already chosen us ahead of them.

By the way, couldn't we have done the Mamardashvili deal last year and immediately loan him out like Liverpool did? Would we have had to register him and fuck around with the salary cap first to loan him out?

He's tiny for a modern goalkeeper though isn't he. Shorter than Inaki Pena.

Always chuckle at Arsenal being a set piece side yet effectively having a midget in goal for themselves.

It happens. The entire world or fans were screaming for their teams to sign Memo Ochoa after the 2014 World Cup even though the guy's been bang average his entire career....apart from when he plays for his country.

Then he suddenly turns into prime Lev Yashin.

True that. He always dives in slow motion though.

My theory is that international football shoots in slow motion.

Just far from a top level goalkeeper.

"Big Barca accounts" as one dude in the desert living on twitter 24/7? And his opinion should matter why exactly?
He´s like one the most famous and reliable news aggregator for Barcelona on X. I remember his old account had +500k followers. When fans look for news regarding Barcelona they often look for him.
